I think you should hit the local spots/shop local/etc. but 1. Sometimes I want a butterburger (name your major chain/busniess/etc,) and only God can judge me 2. The whole house thing Yeah absolutely shop local when you can but the list of people they point fingers at (landlord, alderman, mayor, the community, etc.) is a bit much for me to take them seriously. I can't imagine you are all that familiar with Chicago politics and neighborhood dynamics.

Also it’s pretty cruel to judge someone for putting up their house on a small business when the reason they did it was they were promised it would be next to a theater that was given up on. I’ve worked for an alderman before, 100% they were at least told this was the right move by local government without tax incentives. I don’t know anything about portage park but it’s p obvious what happened

I do generally think moving an establishment to a much bigger location more than a block away is a worse idea than starting over fresh but that’s an issue outside of Chicago or local government or whatefer

I don't fault them for trying but it does seem a little naive for people who were from that area and knew how things worked (or didn't).

Don't want to go too far down this road, but I know they were close to John Arena. If I had to guess, I'd say he talked things through with them and they made plans with the expectation that he would get reelected and be able to keep his plans moving. When that didn't happen, the entire six corners got royally screwed.

I don't fault them for trying but it does seem a little naive for people who were from that area and knew how things worked. Well I know in Lincoln Park the alderman who continues to get re-elected told small businesses for a decade that development was coming any day now and there were about 3 rounds of closings before they actually replaced the hospital with a complex that has 3 chain restaurants inside of it. It’s certainly naive but I think people assume the local government has their best interest at heart vs wanting to create a false narrative to major outside developers that it’s a striving community with bars and restaurants

It's brutal, and incredibly painful after how active/involved/open Arena was.

Trying to figure out that whole thing is like a parody of Widows except there’s no cool heist and most of the constituents just hate poor people and public housing.

Yarp, that's pretty much it. Whatever percentage of folks who were mad about the public housing proposal in the north part of the ward threw a giant fit and managed to drum up enough support (through an incredibly shady social media campaign that I still don't understand!) for a candidate that had no business being on the ballot and has refused to meet with the community since being elected.
It's not even my fucking ward, but it pisses me off to no end.

In the future it might be a good idea to just preemptively assume you're wrong and NOT make fun of small business owners who just lost their home

our beer cart just came around and i convinced this lady who hates beer to try a goose island SPF because she loves passion fruit.
well she hates it so now i have to chug hers and mine in 40 minute.s two work beers in 40 minutes is like the equivalent of 10 real life beers.

Anybody here doing the Cider summit at Navy Pier on Saturday? Last time Mrs FiveHole and I went it got real ugly. We were a lot younger and without a kid at home though so hopefully we can behave ourselves a little better this time.

My girlfriend mostly drinks ciders, and I think last years got cancelled so she's really excited for this one. Not enough that we bought the VIP tickets but I'm really hoping it's a fun time for her sake

Picked up several bottles of Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig and went to a bar that had Toppling Goliath on tap, so it was a good beer day.

We've gone each of the last few years with some friends that are more into something like this than the beer scene, and it's a good time.

Rhingeist is doing a tap takeover close to my place on Wednesday and I think I’m gonna check it out. Really enjoyed their stuff when I was in Cinci for Homecoming fest.

I was never a huge fan, and I dunno if anyone here is, but there was a brewery from Manhattan, KS called Tallgrass Brewing that produced some popular beers in the midwest. Opened in 2007, expanded in 2015 and was the largest beer distributor in Kansas, available in 18 states. They closed up the actual distribution center in 2018 though, and only serve a select amount of beer at their taphouse, mostly the one's popular specifically in Manhattan.
Today Wichita Brewing Company announced that they've purchased the recipes for Buffalo Sweat (oatmeal stout), Raspberry Jam (berliner weisse), Key Lime Pie (ale), and 8-Bit (pale ale) and will begin re-distributing those on March 23rd. So if you miss those beers they are coming back.

While we're isolated it's important to keep your self hydrated and inebriated but if you're not exercising (even walking the usual steps) you should trim down your caloric intake otherwise you're gonna be a fatty in no time.
Here are some low calorie sour beers that I like that are all under 200 calories a can. Some are even as low as 135.
Crooked Stave Sour Rose Dogfish Head Seaquench Ale Dogfish Head Super Eight Destihl Here Gose Nuthin Destihl Lynbrook Anderson Valley Briney Melon Gose Anderson Valley Blood Orange Gose Prairie Artisan Ales Funky Gold Mosaic (dry hopped sour) Prairie Artisan Ales Rainbow Sherbert Blvd Lemon Ginger Radler Blvd Tequila Lime Gose

You are in Wisconsin.
Have you not tried the New Glarus fruit beers?

I haven’t. I’m not fully opposed but I so rarely care for sours that I have yet to go out of my way to try them. I like a couple of the Destihl sours but there’s enough beer to drink out here that I haven’t gotten to expanding my palette in that direction.

Cerebral is doing online ordering for pickup, so that's dangerous.
I'll definitely be taking advantage.
