I'm actually switching sides on this whole "which LCD song is better" war. I jammed American dream a few times this week and like it more than call the police.
Not a fan of the band but neither song is terrible in my book.

call the police is like, a caricature of lcd soundsystem super unmemorable except it's a pretty straight-forward guitar rock song, which isn't really the case for most of their library.... the lyrics aren't breaking new ground but that's not really the point of the song, and there are some good quotables for live performances. I remember it very well. *shrug* |

I don't think "Call the Police" is bad necessarily, but I agree that it's unmemorable. It is very fun live though, and at the time I thought it was the standout of the new tracks they played at Brooklyn Steel.
"American Dream" is phenomenal though and one of their best.

To a certain extent, I am on team goodson here. I much prefer "American Dream" on record. Really dig the dreamy Twin Peaks (tv show) vibe. And the lyrics really speak to me. It may be in my top 5 LCD songs.
I don't think "Call the Police" is as bad as he does, but it does sort of make me think of U2, which is definitely not a compliment. When he sings "and we don't waste time with love", he sounds like Bono to me, at least in the first instance, and I am like, yuck. However, I am sure that the song will be amazing live.
