I don't think I've ever listened to Greensky Bluegrass on record, just saw them before Phil Lesh last summer. It was a lot of fun, they had one of the guys from Moe. come out and jam with them and then another guy who I couldn't identify came out and jammed with them and an old deadhead offered me a joint that came out of his extremely sweaty crotch on the hottest day of the year, at a fest where you don't have to hide your drugs (I declined because yuck). Greensky has always been a great live band but never a great recorded band but they've been delivering consistently long enough that id put them almost in the category of Railroad Earth and Punch Brothers who have the ability to transcend their somewhat cheesy genre

True. It might be good for me to at least keep a running list of albums so I can remember what I listened to, but you're right it's probably not a good idea to rank them right off the bat. thats basically what i do. I keep a running spreadsheet and put the album in a gut reaction column (Yes/No/Maybe) then go back and revisit things as needed to make a list

Sharon Van Etten's album is my front runner out the gate. What a tremendous record. Also, I love Angelo De Augustine, and this record is no exception. I think I prefer his last one tho?

Also, Steve Gunn and William Tyler are straight up my two favorite active guitarists, and I'm so happy their release schedules continue to be so aligned. Steve's new record is another gem (and already giving SVE a run for her money in my personal standings)

James Blake album runs out of steam by the end but I like it alot. The highs on the new Future album are so high.

IMO he has gotten better with each of his last 4 records, but this is his most fully realized album. Breaks my heart that I'ma be out of town when he comes through NYC - but holy shit that tour with Meg Baird / Mary Lattimore opening is a can't miss. Here's hoping he comes through town again.

Ooooh... very excited to hear that new Swervedriver.
That Deerhunter is definitely a grower and not necessarily one of my favorites so far. I really like What Happens to People and Nocturne, though.

SVE and Krallice are still the only things i really like from this year.
White Lies was disappointing. Better Oblivion is not my thing. Swervedriver and Deerhunter still havent stuck with me at all. A Pale Horse Named Death was v bland.
still need to listen to Judiciary, Astronoid, and Balms. i have Future and James Blake on my to do list too but idk.

Not gonna lie I kinda liked a fair amount of tracks on that White Lies album, after thinking they absolutely sucked for the last decade.

Making an active effort this year to listen to significantly fewer albums than I did in 2018. Hearing 350+ new records was cool, having a pulse on everything, but by the end of the year I felt my love for the 2018 releases was kind of thin compared to past years. Gonna shoot for between 150-200 this year, and returning to in-year favorites more often than seeking out new records I'm only marginally interested in. Will see if this changes anything, idk - or maybe once grad school starts I'll abandon this and go back to old listening habits lol.
Now, so that this post fits this thread, a Top 10 so far:
1. Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow 2. William Tyler - Goes West 3. Steve Gunn - The Unseen In Between 4. Spielbergs - This Is Not The End 5. Angelo De Augustine - Tomb 6. Deerhunter - Why Hasn't Everything Already Disappeared 7. Better Oblivion Community Center - S/T 8. Lost Under Heaven - Love Hates What You Become 9. Mike Krol - Power Chords 10. Maggie Rogers - Heard It In A Past Life

Yes! Mike Krol is a darkhorse release that I'm really enjoying.
I'm pretty in love with the new Telescopes record @wretched, I think it might be worth your time.

I want to listen to the Malibu Ken album and I'm normally a Tobacco stan but I'm mad at him right now because he called me out on Reddit.

Has potential: *
Disappointing: * Panda Bear - Buoys * Xiu Xiu - Girl with Basket of Fruit
Sucks: *
Worthwhile reissues, special editions, and other such nonsense: * Green River - Rehab Doll
