Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's no point in making this thread cus nobody's here and the lineup sucks. But as the self-appointed BoardBassador to this festival, I'm gonna let you know what's going on whether you like it or not.

I'm at the Historic and Newly Renovated Variety Playhouse waiting on some band to take the stage, play some songs, leave the stage, and then for Slowdive to take the stage.
Also, I accidentally haven't drank in a while and am two beers in and am lit af.
There's a debate going on next to me about whether or not Smashing Pumpkins are shoegaze.
The current temperature is 118 F.
Stay tuned.

I reached out to Kim. Will try to meet them for LCD.
This is set up exactly like p4k, except better bathroom, food, VIP.
The "green" and "red" stages are playing at the same time rn though because Temples is running long and RKS ain't having that shit. Pretty annoying.

I was wrong earlier. They actually scheduled the overlap on the two stages. So fucking stupid. Sound bleed is bad.

Here, I finally have a moment to do this:
Thursday: Slowdive was fucking amazing. See setlist above. Top 50 show all time.
Friday (aka the only good day of this festival): Cymbals Eat Guitars were cool. I stood in the back at ate ice cream. It was warm outside.
Temples were OK. I left their set early.
Rainbow Kitten Surprise was my great discovery this weekend. Read up on them on the Shaky app the morning of, and saw comparisons to Modest Mouse. I definitely got that in their vocal delivery and somewhat in song structure, but not in their writing. Regardless, still a great show. One of the better/most fun front men I've seen recently. Highly recommend checking them out and seeing their show if you have the chance. Only down side was this is when I discovered the issues of sound bleeding between the A and B stages. Not cool, Shaky Knees.
Car Seat Headrest has really improved their already great show. These guys are rock stars now and they know it. A ton of fun.
The GROWLERS were fun. I was thinking about skipping them (overlapped with end of CSH and ended just as Wolf Parade was to start), but since the stages were so close together, I ran over and caught the end of their set. Very happy I did. They covered William Onyeabor.
Wolf Parade was fine. I'm not a huge fan, but know a lot of you are. Actually ran into them waiting for my car on Saturday. I asked them when they were playing Chicago because my friend Mookie wants to see them. They sort of laughed it off and got in their car. It was a very weird interaction.
I caught the last 30 seconds of Highly Suspect because I spent a long time waiting for a rice bowel. The rice bowel was very good, though.
I wandered around for a bit and then caught a few minutes of Portugal. The Man. Just wanted to hear that stupid catchy song that XRT plays all the time. They played it and I left.
FIDLAR rawked.
Caught ~10 mins of Viet Cong. I kept referring to them as Viet Cong because their name should be Viet Cong.
Beered up and got a spot for Pixies. Haven't seen Pixies. Love Pixies. Didn't have the highest expectations for Pixies. Pixies was the best show of the weekend. They fucking brought it and sounded amazing. I think some people on here were saying that Pixies suck now when discussion this fest a couple years ago (I skipped them then because I got close for Mastodon and stayed there for The Strokes). IDK what the fuck whoever was saying that was on cus this band fucking rips.
LCD Soundsystem was great obviously but kind of weird? Tempo was off all night, but seemed intentional. They'd play a song super fast, then play a song super slow. James was having a blast with it. New songs were good but I think are much better not at a fest. I hung back a bit for this set and drank a bunch of beer and sort of did my thing and it was fun.
Saturday: There were a few bands I wanted to see on Sunday, but none on Saturday. Rather than waste the money on a hotel and parking and food for two nights to see a couple small- to mid-sized bands that I'll see 10 more times this year, I left Saturday morning and drove to Damascus. This took a lot longer than I expected, so I didn't have time to explore the town like I wanted. I walked a bit on the Creeper Trail and ate lunch there. Wish I didn't take the time to drive there as that needs to be it's own trip.
Then I drove to Grayson Highlands and hopped on the AT. From where I (I think illegally?) parked, it was only like 6 miles to the Thomas Knob shelter, which was great because it was almost dark when I got started. The shelter was taken, as expected, but I was kind of hoping it would be anyway so I wouldn't be tempted to be lazy. I camped out near the water source behind the shelter, if you're familiar.
Sunday: I got about 4 hours of sleep, woke up very early, packed up, caught the sunrise, and started driving. Made it back to Indy in great time, only stopping once. I really need to take time to explore the AT, and this area in general, some more. Maybe next year I'll skip a couple fests and do so. The reason I picked these two locations is because a favorite YouTuber of mine lives nearby and films a lot of his hikes/camps. He's made a number of videos of these two spots.
For those who haven't camped alone: do it. Nothing feels better.

In hindsight, maybe I should have said something different than, "Hey, great show yesterday. When are you playing Chicago? My bud Mookie's been waiting a while." The look I got for knowing someone named Mookie was pretty great.
