re:jimmyrecard- It's 2017 fests only
It definitely could be a really good deal. Honestly if I could work out making like one more fest it'd be a pretty good deal since I'd do ACL, FPSF, and Voodoo with this. But they announced this a bit late in the year, makes it a bit harder to plan around when I've already set some travel plans in motion
also the biggest fests I'm interested this year pretty much aren't on there (obviously cuz no live nation involvement which is probably why they are the fest I'm most interested in). Pitchfork, Psycho Vegas, Sound on Sound, and Day for Night. Only one on there I was already thinking of going to is ACL

The passport seems like an amazing deal if you can actually go to more than a couple of festivals. At that price it's basically "pay for Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, get every other festival free." yeah this would've been fucking amazing for me last year when i went to like 14 fests this year, not so much. cool idea tho

People who were already set on Lolla, ACL or Bonnaroo already have their tickets and travel plans. But for people on the fence, this is an incentive to get them to the majors, and then also head along to some of the smaller fests which don't sell out, and spend money on drinks, food and merch. Seems like a way to drag people who aren't sure about their fest plans to go to LN festivals, instead of appealing to most of us on the board who already have a pretty clear idea of our year and buy tickets well in advance.

I wonder what location has the highest density of moderately close LN festivals.

Gotta be London, right? Or England in general?

I mean, you can drive from the border of Scotland to sound end of England in five hours. Everything is moderately close.

Rough year for Pointfest. Korn dropped off a few days ago and then yesterday happened so they just cancelled the whole damn festival.
In related news, Rock on the Range promises a tribute to Chris Cornell in the headlining slot Soundgarden was scheduled to fill tonight. They didn't clarify what this means, but hopefully it's not just a bunch of random dudes playing Soundgarden and Audioslave songs with Corey Taylor on vocals.

yeah i feel bad that every time Pointfest tries to do something that isn't the bottom of the barrel buttrock that can still sell sheds in StL (ffdp, shinedown, etc.) and go for something more 90's (Soundgarden) or critically beloved (QotSA a few years ago,) the thing goes to hell in a handbasket. 105.7 down there is such a great station too. town is going to hell and they're trying to help

North Coast will be dropping hints for their unannounced acts on Tuesday, with the full lineup officially being announced the week after.

Wayhome has now added Pemberton to the list of cancelled fest attendees they'll give free tickets to (after doing so for Fyre already).

From Nita Strauss:
I was literally on the Rock on the Range stage with my guitar in my hands, ready to play the National Anthem with the Marine color guard... and they shut the whole place down for a storm. Osito watched the emergency evacuation in disbelief 🚨 Bands, production, and crew are all taking shelter in the hallways of the stadium... let's see what happens!! We are all back here ready to rock and roll rain or shine 🌪⚡️⛈

You were probably kidding, but I know someone working on the grounds at RotR, and believe it or not but the tribute is indeed Corey Taylor, Soundgarden footage, and some other stuff. Everyone in the crew is hoping that the storm pushes everything back so much (they still need to be done by 11) that this "tribute" is cut mercifully short

Yeah, as soon as I saw that Stone Sour covered "Outshined" at the Thursday pre-party I figured it would be mostly Corey Taylor. Because the people who book these things seem to think he appeals to every possible demographic and act like he's THE definitive rock voice of his generation. He typically covers a few grunge-era songs at his solo acoustic shows too.
It's probably the best they could have done given the circumstances. The only band that would have worked as a replacement is Pearl Jam, and I'm sure those guys have prior commitments and/or are in mourning with their families.
