In a major coup for the streaming service, Netflix has reportedly wooed prolific TV producer Ryan Murphy away from his long-time employers at Fox. According to The New York Times, the American Crime Story mastermind has just signed a five-year deal to produce shows (and potentially more) for the service, reportedly worth as much as $300 million. Ambitious, divisive, and as often deeply annoying as its is quasi-visionary, Murphy’s TV output has been huge for Fox and its sister networks over the last few years, with shows like Glee, American Crime Story, Scream Queens, American Horror Story, Feud, and 9-1-1 all tapping into various parts of the networks’ demographics with a certain relentless glee.

I'm very invested in this Altered Carbon show even though everything besides the production design and the Edgar Allen Poe hotel sucks.

I'm very invested in this Altered Carbon show even though everything besides the production design and the Edgar Allen Poe hotel sucks. I finished it over the weekend. It's largely trash. Gratuitous everything, and for no reason. Shitty story telling, the acting's not that great, has little originality. But I found some merit in it. It was like a Blade Runner meets Game of Thrones vibe.

You can actively see it trying hard to be a new GoT. I could see this all being more interesting and realized in the books.

YoutubeTV: Now TNT, TBS, CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, HLN, truTV, and TCM are all included in your membership. (Yes, that means a LOT of basketball and more 24/7 news.) Happy Valentine's Day!
Excellent. All I'm missing is Comedy Central.

ive been watching season 2 of the Good Place, on about episode 8, and somehow this season is better than the first which I'm really impressed by because I didn't really know where they could go after the first season. Great stuff, do recommend it

But their website/app has basically everything there, so there's really no loss.

CNN being added is huge for me. If they got HGTV and Food Network I'd cut the cord.

How does that compare to any of the other similar services? Do they all pretty much offer the same list of channels?

You can also have up to 6 "family" accounts so your roommates can share the channels and have their own DVR recordings.
edit: But there’s a significant downside coming along with the good news: these changes are leading to a price hike. Starting March 13th, YouTube TV’s monthly subscription cost will rise from $35 to $40. All customers who join the service prior to the 13th will be able to keep the lower $35 monthly rate going forward. And if you’ve been waiting for YouTube to add Viacom channels, that still hasn’t happened yet.

Honestly, that seems pretty ideal. Probably gonna do that since we pay way too much for our cable. The biggest downside would be losing HBO.

Me and my roommate just didn't bother getting cable when we moved here a little over a year ago, and I haven't really missed it
Buuuut I leech my parents cable log-in which allows me to watch most sports (ESPN and TNT at least) and catch up on the shows I watch regularly as well as HBO. And we have Netflix + Hulu and rabbit ears to get the local channels (mainly used for football). So I guess I'm sort of cheating.

So I guess I'm sort of cheating. Cheating at what? The point is not to pay an arm and a leg for all this crap, not to not have access to it. You're winning.

We used my parents' logins for a while. No shame in that.

I'm over 200 for cable and internet and it has to stop, it has gone up so much since I signed up. I'm going to change over to Comcast once the Olympics are over and just do internet.

We have xfinity and it's like $120 for cable and internet. Mine went up and I haven't called to haggle it back down mostly because we've been thinking about making this kind of switch.

I pay ~$68 for just internet through RCN, including renting out their modem-router which I'm considering getting my own.

I just have internet and like basic cable meaning just networks with RCN and my bill went up almost $30 per month after my first year. I called up to complain and they dropped the cable box fee which was $10 per month.

We've rented ours, but in retrospect that was a terrible move.
