Talk about your favorite quality (cough) beep boop music here. Post mixes, talk about gigs, you get it. Saw DJ Sprinkles this weekend, and holy shit, I'm still glowing. Pretty easily the best DJ set I've seen. No way to not sound like a pretentious silly person when describing, but for real, it challenged my idea of what a DJ set could be. It was so evident that they've been obsessive about music and the actual craft of DJing for decades. From the mixing to the track selection to the vibe journey over the 5+ hours from 4AM darkness to 9:30AM in the morning... it was just surreal. <3 Also, been obsessed with the new Octo Octa track. Can't for this album. So, WHAT ARE Y'ALL DANCING TO?

Love that - especially the Denzel Curry sample. Good stuff.
I have been digging this Perturbator track and will be dancing like a fool at Psycho Las Vegas when they play it on the "beach" after midnight:
Love the 80's movie score vibe it puts off.

One of my friends mentioned Ralphi Rosario the other day. Ralphi is a Chicago legend who started out on WBMX and by spinning at high school dances back when I was a teenage ten15. I was curious to see what he was up to, and found this:
It has a nice throwback vibe.

Sad I had to go to work and cut things short, but happy my insane ass decided to Sober Club™ it up in the early am.

Ok ok ok gonna try and give this thread more life after even myself ignoring it for a month + Just got back last night from techno summer camp, Sustain Release. For the second year in a row, this was one of the best festival experiences I've ever had. The venue (a literal children's summer camp upstate), the people (of which they cap at 1,000), the production, and the fucking insane curation of the lineup just make for one of the most unique events I've ever attended. Now, don't get me wrong, this is a very specific vibe and brand, but if you're a beep boops obsessed peep, this should be on your bucket list. Literally ever bit of music I heard was good, even when it wasn't my first choice / taste. Everyone here is at the top of their game, and brings their absolute best. It's really a special event. With only 1,000 attendees, and three stages (two dancefloors and an ambient area), nothing ever gets too packed. First is the Grove, the ambient focused stage in the woods, which you get to by crossing the MOST perilous floating bridge over a small lake. With a beautiful nature enveloping light setup, it's the perfect spot to sit on a log or by the campfire, and just relax to beautiful sounds. Highlight for me on this stage was DJ Python Thursday night, who brought a tiny bit more ummf to the stage with a gorgeous reggaeton influenced live set. The only other stage operating Thursday night was the Bossa stage, which is one of the two main performance areas. This is the more "alternative" leaning stage, with more variation in the sounds and styles. Jane Fitz played a nice and heady open to close 6 hour set Thursday night to warm things up for the weekend, but this stage really shined Friday & Saturday. Laurel Halo was, as expected, gorgeous, but sadly I was more in the headspace for something faster/heavier at that particular moment so only stayed for half her set. Highlights for me on Bossa were Bruce who closed Friday night playing until sunrise. I was not familiar with Bruce going into the weekend, but wow what a spectacular set. UK DJ that, who while having a techno backbone, loves to play with good UK modern classic sounds like Grime, (actual) Dubstep and Hardcore. Every time my exhausted self would slightly start to lose interest, he'd change up the style with the next track and keep things consistently fresh. He's a gem of a new find for me. Saturday at Bossa gave us some great sets throughout the night that I popped in and out of, but really that night (or uh, the next day really) was ALLLLL for our lord and savior Powder. Starting at 4AM and leading through sunrise well into Sunday (nearly played 8 hours, stopping just before noon), the journey was incredible. I think I heard just about everyone describe her and her set at some point as "cute" or "adorable", and never in a demeaning way. Her sound, while always heavy on the dancing, was so light and airy, with plenty of breathing room and playfullness. It was such a beautiful victory lap for the entire festival, after hours and hours of harsh and unforgiving sounds coming at you from every direction. And speaking of harsh and unforgiving sounds... this brings us to the main stage. Housed in the camp's shitty old steel structure gymnasium, they somehow build out a dance floor that, IMO, holds it on with any dance floor I've been on anywhere in the world (yes, TAKE THAT Berlin). Ranging from dark to down right terrifying, this stage was where they housed THE techno all weekend. This year the stage was reimagined with an in the round the setup, that allowed for there to be PLENTY of dancing room even during its busiest moments. Friday night at Main featured what was quite possibly my favorite set of the weekend, LSDXOXO. 2 hours of what I can only describe as Agro Queer FUCK YOU Techno Punk Music, that somehow went from literally screaming at you over a raging beat, to mixing in Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head". Simultaneously playful, prideful, and unrelenting with its intensity, when I say I was LITERALLY running in fucking circles in the back of the room by the end of it, I do not over exaggerate. Momma needed a sit down and a smoke after this one wrapped up. YIKES Saturday brought out the big guns though. Cashu got things started for me with a lovingly heady set. She runs a popular queer party in Brazil, and that similar sense of playfulness you find at most good queer parties was always there during her set. Great start to the night. Later, I had another new discovery for me that truly BLEW MY FUCKING MIND. Wata Igarashi had a live hardware set that I simply was not ready for. Not even sure how to put this one into words, for an hour we were just within a constantly building and churning symphony of arpeggiated notes that went EVERYWHERE while going no where at all. I've got to explore his music more. Finally, Saturday / Sunday morning wrapped with a 6 hour + set from midwest living legend DVS1. Going into this, even for me, I was kind of thinking eh, he's a little too straight forward of a techno head for me, but WOW. The couple hours I caught proved me wrong. Constantly raging on four decks at a time, the mixing was maybe some of the best I saw all weekend. Never relenting, but always changing and NEVER boring. The juxtaposition of bouncing back and forth between Powder's love filled sounds at Bossa, and DVS1's absolute HELLSCAPE was a morning I won't forget anytime soon. And with that, yay! I actually wrote out a long review for once. What a beautiful weekend, and I already can't wait for next year. One of those rare events where I really feel lucky to have been able to attend. If anyone wants to hear more, literally bring it up in conversation at any time and I'll be happy to talk your ear off. hahaha. <3
