Could be a big draw if he was actually good too amirite? This is a good point. His Firefly show was panned pretty heavily. They might want to avoid another Drake situation?

All three of those acts are huge, I definitely think it is a believable top three.

Tool would be such an odd booking in 2020

Is Tool really that big of a stretch? The same fest booked GNR and LCD Soundsytem (in the same year). The new Tool album is on track to outsell Lana Del Rey by a large amount. As for the Staples center argument ... Ariana, Radiohead, The Weeknd and others all had SoCal arena/stadium dates in the Fall before Coachella.
I don't think Paul shies away from an unusual booking, and I think the amount of pigeon-holing of Tool fans going on on other websites (ie that Tool fans wouldn't have any interest in any other acts on a Coachella lineup) is pretty inaccurate. There are plenty of Tool fans that have broad tastes in music. Everyone seems ok with the idea that Metallica would headline (even though they tour way more than Tool), so I don't really get the disconnect.

Bunch of Tool haters on this board, I've come to accept this fact in the 10 years I've been lurking here now

I don’t think Coachella ever booked a headliner that played a bunch of butt-rock fests the previous year that were basically giving away tickets. I’m not saying there’s no chance they could get booked, but I don’t see them moving in dial as far as ticket sales go which you think would be a priority for Goldenvoice coming off a pretty weak presale.

Tool wasn't the issue, they can move plenty of tickets. Foo Fighters were on a bunch of those bills as well and they had the same problem. They initially tried to charge way too much money for all those fests, and got terribly unlucky with the weather.

Vampire Weekend play this fest next year or are they too old for this demographic?

I don't think they're too old, I'd guess they're a #2 or #3 on their day. But I do wonder about the demographic...there were a whole lot of options of a similar size floating around for 2019 that Coachella passed on (The National and Robyn come to mind), so it's hard to gauge.

Not that there was anything suspicious but The National is ruled out cos of Aaron Dessner opening for Bon Iver in Europe.

wasnt there a thing that Justin Timberlake was basically booked for this at one point but had to pull out for some reason? is it unreasonable to think that
its also only a matter of time before Post Malone headlines this one day

He may have been booked previously, but I think JT would need to have a new and very positive album cycle to salvage his Coachella-bookability post-MotW.
Not saying he isn't big enough a draw (he is), but that the general public is too disinterested in his current output and vibe for AEG/GV to want him at the top of the poster.
I'm saying he is deeply uncool is what I'm saying.

1) That was from this past January, though it does say Coachella 2020. 2) The reserve was not met, and no one won the prize. 3) Holy *shit* what a terrible scam:
They only guarantee a minimum of 10% of funds raised will go to the listed charity. Jesus christ.

Someone on reddit saw that this page was archived with wayback in January this year with the same text. I highly doubt the charity knew that far in advance that JT was headlining. Must just have been a copy/paste job or placeholder.

What I'm sure is an incredibly dumb question...would MCR headline?
