Hey ya'll. As we near the end of the year I wanted to get things in order with our tallying since I do it normally. We'll be doing two lists, one for Albums of 2019, and one for the Decade (2010-2019). If someone wants to take on songs for year/decade be my guest, but I'm not interested in this year. As far as the album lists, I wanted to toss out some ideas and folks can vote. Based on feedback I've received, and to encourage more lists, I'm tossing some ideas out there. You can vote, but here you'll find a description of them.
Option 1: The Old Method - tried and true, everyone gives a list of 20-50 albums, with #1 getting 50 points, and #50 getting 1 point. Added that shiz together and we got ourselves a wiener. The problem with this method is how daunting a task it is, since most of these albums end up with 1-20 points and aren't even on the final list. Furthermore there's always some clown tossing a random album that no one else heard of at number 1 just to make sure it appears on the list. Still, people who want to show off how many albums they listened to over the year/decade feel good about it when they have 850 albums in one page.
Option 2: Andrew Yang's Mathapoalooza - Instead of doing 50, everyone does 20, and gets 100 points to allocate to that list. Every album needs at least 1 point, but you could top load your #1 with 81 points total. Add this all up, and we have ourselves a more challenging score method, but one that makes your #1 more impacting, something that previous list methods did not allow for. Drawback to this one is doing math, and someone could easily just top load their points on a really stupid album that no one else likes. But, it would get to a more highly adored #1 pick.
Option 3: Blind Date - Extending on Option 1, everyone PMs me their list, thus removing any predictability. After the final list is posted, everyone can post their lists. This makes it a little bit more fun imo, as no one but me (scary, I know) can see the results.
Option 4: Blind Double Date - Basically Option 2, only blind.
Option 5: Stop Doing Lists - Participation has gotten less and less, especially since moving to the new board. Many folks don't even listen to more than 20 albums a year, and if they do they don't do repeatedly listen. More and more folks are opting to have a life outside of the Board, which is so strange.
So vote, there are additional answer options outside of these, but those are mainly to filter out any potential terrorists, so vote carefully.
