After some reading, some of these are very large and also operate as convection ovens which people apparently pay a lot of money for.

I'd pay $400 for a toaster oven that also operates as a time machine.

Stay tuned for a stupid expensive thing that I may purchase soon (possibly under the influence of alcohol). Jogging strollers are stupid expensive but I want to run with #babyscoots.

Jesus who's paying $400 for a toaster oven? Well it goes well with $200 worth of jam ... you then only need to another $200 worth of fine bread and brie, and then to toast the whole fine thing out (just teasing.. was an easy one!)

Our toaster oven burnt literally everything I put in it over the past few weeks and I decided I was fucking done. Consumer reports said this is the best toaster oven under $400. After some Bed Bath and Beyond coupons and some merchandise credit left over from the wedding it was a total score If this is the Breville Mini Smart Oven with Element IQ it's also the winning toaster oven according to Cook's Illustrated's equipment review. I used to scoff at the idea of a toaster oven, but I've become a convert. We have an old Cuisinart model and I use it frequently to reheat leftovers that don't fare well in the microwave. It does a phenomenal job with half of a leftover hamburger and fries, for example. Much better than firing up the full-size oven and it also heats up very quickly. I'll totally get the Breville if/when this one conks out.

I should look at the cooks illustrated equipment review, that sounds like a shitload of fun. I think my mom gets those.

Also goddamn, this is why I love this place. I don’t know a lot of other places I could post a picture of a toaster oven and start discussing different models

Looks like the review initially ran in 2011 and was updated in 2014 to include the mini Breville (it tied with the full-size model). Cook's has a pretty solid paywall, but I'd be happy to copy/paste the review and send it to you via Messenger if you're interested.

the better half got tired of riding in the passenger seat of a 23 yr old mercedes c220 with 96,000 miles on it, and which just had the alternator die again. so, in the morning before the three classic rock bands played wrigley, a tow truck for a veterans charity towed it away.
yesterday, the two of us jointly became the owners of a brand new american car which was apparently built in mexico with an engine from brazil. it doesn't corner or take turns the way the car with old school german engineering did, but the better half is happy with the new ride.

How did a 23 year old car only have 96,000 miles on it? That's wild

I want to buy us a nice set of bath towels as a Christmas gift. Anyone have recommendations that make you feel like a king/queen wrapped in softness as you dry off?

I want to buy us a nice set of bath towels as a Christmas gift. Anyone have recommendations that make you feel like a king/queen wrapped in softness as you dry off? Consumer reports surprisingly does not have any bath towel reviews. However they do have a buying guide on their site that recommends things that are made of pima cotton or egyptian cotton. Anything with rayon will be slightly more absorbent. A little more anecdotally, when I worked in a department store we sold an assload of the Ralph Lauren brand towels because of how soft they were. They're fairly expensive as far as a towel set goes but they're really nice. We have Fieldcrest towels from Target and they're really nice. I know part of the softness can be based on what you wash/dry them with and Persil Pro-clean gets high CR marks based on removing body oil, which is what you really need for maintaining soft towels. Also thank you for sending me down a Consumer Reports rabbit hole I love it

I have used a friend's Ralph Lauren bath towel and it was pretty dope. That's sort of where my head is at right now if there aren't other recs. Very willing to spend that much on good towels.
