And on the way back, discovered a very cool and lively city (Baku, Azerbaijan) One of my friends is from Baku and he said that he grew up fairly poor, eating caviar on toast most mornings for breakfast. His family was amazed when they came to the U.S. and saw how much it cost. How old is your friend? Azerbaijan got horribly short-changed during USSR (they used to be rich before, after all this is the birthplace of the modern oil industry in the 19th century, and have been once again on a rag to riche path ever since they regained their independance and thus the control over their oil and gas... the city has been especially booming over the last 10 years... it now feels like a fab mix of Paris, Tel Aviv and Dubai. And yet, caviar is still pretty cheap out there (I am not a huge fan but my friend had some)
