feels bad to have introduced the board to ratboys but then have their new album toward the bottom of my top 50. they're ahead of like 50 other albums tho!

also can we do shout outs to locals and friends who put out killer music this year? a friend of ours put out their debut record this week and it's a wildly fun synth/glitch album that's basically comprised like a video game soundtrack. highly recommend for background music while you work. fightingisland.bandcamp.com/album/echoes-from-brightmoon-torand another friend who is a freaking machine and puts out like 3 or 4 albums year put out maybe their best work yet. very doom metal meets new wave beats. might be a little harsh on the vocals for some people but i think it would work for most on this board. eversonpoe.bandcamp.com/album/rituals

wanted to do a brief roundup of some records i thought were super underrated this year, looking through the lists thread and just in general discussion. not expecting anyone to change their lists, and in fact several of these either didn't quite make it on my top 50 or came out too late for me to work them in, but i think they're all good and hopefully someone will find something good and new.
you liked the jeff rosenstock album and also like theatrical, blistering guitar leads red city radio - paradise
you are ok with the smooth rock revival and like guitar-based art pop. westerman - your hero is not dead
you liked the andy shauf album and are willing to try it with a bit more twang choice track: “los angeles” dougie poole - the freelancer’s blues
you liked phoebe bridgers’ turn to synthy vaporwave on “kyoto” and want to dial it up to 11 jackie lynn - jacqueline
you liked the psych worlds sonic boom lended to beach house, mgmt, and panda bear, and want to dial it up to 11 sonic boom - all things being equal
you are cool with and even intrigued by club tracks built around organically played rhodes piano and other instruments instead of samples. choice track: “this is for you” theo parrish - wuddaji
you like the sault album, could deal with a sunnier vibe, and are looking for more sample based soul. girlhood - girlhood
you see fiveiron’s daily album posts and see this album cover regularly and always think “i should listen to that sometime.” you also vibe with diy alt electro pop. too free - love in high demand

deadline is tonight at midnight CST, munkivelli you still have a "saved" spot in the thread with no list. Got a decent chunk of folks who did lists for 2019 who don't have one up yet, so does anyone need more time? I'm good to extend through the weekend if anyone needs it, just let me know.

Is glass beach - the first glass beach album a 2019 or 2020 release, according to the board? spotify says May 28, 2019 release it was self-released then, but didn't get an actual label release until january... but yea, i think that qualifies it as a 2019 release

Yeah. I still felt pretty solid about my overall top 20. But 21-50+ was brutal. Many good albums this year.
Getting my spicy takes on the phoebe album ready when it hits #1

Getting my spicy takes on the phoebe album ready when it hits #1 I waffled on putting Phoebe or Dogleg at #1 and decided on Phoebe, but it was a close call. ...and yea, pretty much everything after 20 was hard to rank... all 50 of the albums in my list are albums I dig, at least. I didn't just throw down 50 albums because I could.

Getting my spicy takes on the phoebe album ready when it hits #1 Let's do this now. Stranger in the Alps was far and away better than Punisher, no? Obvs happy to see her glow up in such a major way this year, but I was def a lil disappointed in the new record - tho I still liked it enough to land on the back half of my list. I also liked her contributions to Boygenius more than any individual Punisher track.

I think I like Stranger in the Alps more but the highs of Punisher are muuuuuch higher than SITA.

The run of ICU-> Graceland Too-> I Know the End is far and away better than anything on Stranger in the Alps. I liked the first record, this felt like a huge step forward for her and I enjoy it more.
