Hey folks, everything nice and quiet over the last week while I was gone?
I want to formally apologize, because I do not feel that I handled things well. The politics thread has had more fights and rule breaking than any other, so I was nervous all of Tuesday. While I had added moderators, it was a big week to drop on new people. When things did get out of hand, I reacted strongly, wanting to re-establish the ground rules for that thread, and hopefully forestall any further issues. I did so poorly. In addition, trying to do so on a phone, with bad internet service, and using tools I had not before all exacerbated my mistakes. I, in all likelihood, made things worse than they would have been on their own. My sincere apologies to everyone that I upset, misunderstood, or spoke negatively to. That was obviously not my intention, but that does not change how it happened. I appreciate your grace and understanding in this.
Now, for the announcement, albeit a slightly late and already known one. As mentioned above, we have new moderators! Please welcome mookie, Pale Hose, teekoh, Timbo, and @wretched! They have my sincere thanks for volunteering their time to help keep this place the best it can be. Hopefully, adding additional moderation staff will help eliminate future issues like what happened this last week. Before, if something happened while I was off the board, nothing could be done about it, and I had to make judgement calls in the moment, as I felt responsible for everything that was posted. Now things can be addressed faster, and with multiple staff, we can get rounded input on what needs to be done. As well, the board will need to come up with a more formal code of conduct so that we're not asking anyone to make gut decisions about when a post crosses lines. Please, treat their decisions with respect when they do need to make formal ones. Moderating is not a fun or simple task, so please do not make their lives harder, none of them deserve it.
As always, if you have any issues, concerns, or thoughts, please feel free to send me a message. I do not want anyone to feel ignored or unheard. I do my best to keep this board running smoothly, but I freely admit I do not do a perfect job of it. The reason I made this is for everyone who posts here, so it's all of you who matter the most. Thank you all, and my goal is always for this forum to grow from any headaches, and not let them happen again.
