Every corporate office appears to be pivoting to this for the forseeable future, including my own and every person not-online that I've talked to. It seems set up to fail in these times due to site traffic and whatnot, but I don't know anything. What is Zoom?

Zoom is like GoToMeeting where you can do a combination of screen sharing and video chatting. It's largely used for academic related purposes My friend moved to New Haven a couple years back and we use a combination of that and a program that will sync up two VLC users and watch movies pretty regularly. He has access to some sort of premium aspect because of where he goes to school.
Also of note, every time we watch a movie I yell "Come on and ZOOM, come on and ZOOM" at him so it's nice to see someone else has similar invasive thoughts.

We’ve found it’s useful for my work because our clients have some firewall issues using Skype, but zero problems with zoom. Connection seems much better with zoom too

I'm just trying to figure out why I need to have a face to face chat over everything, especially with kids, when a phone call is probably sufficient

Zoom is awesome for collaborating, because you can share screens and easily switch between users sharing their screen. My team is in 3 locations and we use it all the time.
Much better than webex imo.
