A good half of Reflektor was salvaged by James Murphy (the singles in particular). I can't even remember the rest of it, but don't get me wrong, I won't vouch for that as a good album, although I do firmly believe the song "Reflektor" is one of their best.
The Suburbs is great tho

it's crazy that the band that put out "neighborhood 1" put out a song as bland as everything now for the first single on a new album.

New Coldplay song is solid, best thing they've put out in years Yay, hot take time. For Coldplay I'm sure this is wildly experimental but to me it's a pretty vapid attempt at a psychedelic anthem that doesn't come together (instrumental isn't anything particularly interesting and Chris' vocals don't fit). Showing the lyrics was a mistake because they're nonsensical. Regardless, I at least appreciate that they're doing something that isn't further and further down the are-we-even-playing-instruments-anymore EDM route. It's been quite some time since I listened to a Coldplay album, and I'm not sure this single makes me want to change that but it's a quarter-step in the right direction. Used to love Coldplay, Viva la Vida and everything before. Even a few tracks off Mylo Xyloto were good. inb4 I am just a music h8r

OMG Spin's review of the new Ride is hilarious. "Wooly and long-winded, Weather Diaries gathers eleven rock songs of astonishing vapidity; it has the feel of a term paper printed five minutes before class and forgotten the moment of submission." Insanely harsh. But funny. This is actually the only negative review I've seen of the album. so far.

Neither Q nor Mojo liked Weather Diaries, but the reviews are mainly pretty decent.

Neither Q nor Mojo liked Weather Diaries, but the reviews are mainly pretty decent. They didn't praise it, that's for sure, but they just felt it was a modest follow up. Curious how P4K's gonna review it, given that their review of Tarantula back in the 90s was pretty funny, but they're also one of the bigger acts playing their festival this year.

I have not liked any of the new Arcade Fire stuff. "Creature Comfort" is the cringiest of them all. Ugh. *sigh*. sad face.

That's kinda how I feel about it: not bad, but not really that good. The album gets off to a good start (with the exception of "Charm Assault", which I really don't like), but it gets really boring once you get to the middle.

Arcade Fire's career as an elaborate metaphor for the current history of the Democratic party, discuss.

Haven't listened yet, but Charm Assault might be my favorite of the three songs I've heard.

Here's my take on Weather Diaries for anyone who cares:
1. Lannoy Point - Classic Ride sound. Great opener. 2. Charm Assault - GBA era Ride, cringey lyrics, but a jamming sound. I dig it. 3. All I Want - Something new, and not terrible. Was the most jarring of the new singles at first but now I've come to love it. 4. Home is a Feeling - Pink Floydish-vibe, but probably my least favorite of the album. 5. Weather Diaries - starts out kind of meandering, but kicks into high gear towards the middle. I dig this track too and it starts the strongest part of the album. 6. Rocket Silver Symphony - Droning in the beginning gives way to a classic Ride rock song. 7. Lateral Alice - This is early Ride throwback track, and possibly my favorite. 8. Cali - Seems like something right out of a Beach Boys album (lyric wise) but adapted to the Ride sound. Dig this track too. 9. Integration Tape - Mostly noise, but a good segue track nonetheless. Odd placement though. 10. Impermanence - A solid closer, but oddly enough not the closing track. Both this and the final track would be well suited for a closer, but not both together. 11. White Sands - see above.
It doesn't rewrite the genre, but as far as comebacks, it exceeds expectations and tells us that Ride still had some good material to write, even if it took two decades. As far as the big three shoegaze giants - MBV, Slowdive, and Ride - Ride were never that great at lyric writing, Slowdive was much better and still is. MBV was way better at making noise that took you to another realm. Ride just kind of straddled the line between shoegaze, dance music, and mainstream rock, which they've complemented here. I'm happy with it and I'll be going back to it a lot.

That's about what I'd expect from a shoegaze comeback album. even mbv didn't hold up to the band's classics because the golden era of shoegaze was a place and time, really can't be replicated.

Creature Comfort is fantastic.
This feels like what I wanted and expected to follow-up the Suburbs with.

That's about what I'd expect from a shoegaze comeback album. even mbv didn't hold up to the band's classics because the golden era of shoegaze was a place and time, really can't be replicated. I feel like as far as the big three go, MBV was and still is (and will always be) considered the best by most people, followed by Slowdive, and then Ride. No one outside of fans of the genre ever asked for a Slowdive or Ride reunion album, but MBV never "broke up" so mbv was lusted after for two decades. I think despite mbv being nothing new, it was still lauded b/c it was a labor of love, whereas reunions from Slowdive, JAMC, and Ride aren't considered that. I don't know, I think Weather Diaries and even Damage & Joy, are exactly what they needed to be. WD redeems them from Tarantula, and D&J gave us a more bookend to the JAMC catalog. Slowdive is superior to both though, so far imo.

mbv was basically gonna get a positive reaction no matter what when it first dropped but it is a really great album if you revisit it

MBV was more experimental than Slowdive and Ride combined. mbv barely edges out Halcyon Digest for my top album of this decade. It's near perfection.

oh, yeah, it's a good album no doubt, and I should definitely revisit it since I haven't in a few years, I always opt for the classics out of habit.

Fun fact: mbv is basically the only physical cd I have left in my car, so when my phone battery dies, I'm stuck listening to that

you dont have a cigarette usb charger in yr car? bruh I do, I mean the times when I get in the car and it's dead and needs time to charge. Or when my phone is being a pain in the ass and won't connect to spotify. Rare, but it happens.
