so what's your take on this part as well as using the white nationalist kek meme in the background?
In order to impersonate Hopsin, Fantano says, “You should have something around your neck-kek, just on the verge of choking you to death as you read Hopsin lyrics.” Here he throws in a little Easter eggs for 4Chan heads; when his voice is edited to say “kek”, a background image of Shrek with the title photoshopped to read “kek” appears (Kek is a popular 4Chan meme). The next shot is even more disconcerting. Fantano wraps a cord around his neck, while an image of a black guy with a white noose around his neck that appears behind him. Next, we see a background image of another black person being choked, right as Fantano says the words “choked to death.” He’s playing the specter of black suicide and death for laughs.

I don't think it was a comment on "black suicide" but rather the forced edginess of Hopsin's music, and playing "death for laughs" has been part of comedy since forever so that is a stupid complaint. Doesn't really address how the issue is libelous/slanderous elsewhere, and to take ANYTHING this video says as fact I would need to see the source. Heck, that's a standard I hold for anything. |

andrewvb I acknowledged what you said but I didn't see you acknowledge anything I said i dont know what to respond to. you seem to agree that the quoted part is not in good taste and otherwise question the veracity of the article and aren't willing to believe what the article claims the videos depict. what they write is so specific that it's unbelievable that it could all be made up. there are so many horrific things described in the article that are in no way funny that idk what to say. what is it even a parody of? how can it be parody when your audience for it is the 4chan people who revel in it? how is this form of parody doing anything worthwhile? what is this war of ideological extremes? it should be blatant enough that laughing along in a video while the milliondollarextreme guy describes fucking and beating lena dunham until she dies is not parody, not funny, and extremely fucked up. |

Yeah I don't really care about Fantano. At the same time, I don't feel bad for him either. Joke or not, I can't imagine any sane person thinking it's a good idea to have a dark satire on racism, bigotry, etc., in a time when there's so much white nationalism bullshit. He probably should have seen this coming.

So one of my buddies at the Angel Olsen show last night told me that he bought a ticket to St. Vincent's show here in Nov (which I'm going to) and said that he received the album this week. I didn't get the album. I think he's mistaken but we may be seeing a leak over the weekend.
