The show they did at Concord the week before Riot Fest was great. They were meh opening for The Black Keys in 2019.

the only times i've seen modest mouse were at a small venue here in okc that's 50+ years old and is really just a shitty steel building honky tonk that they seem to really like and it always sells out but they never have moved to a larger venue, which i'm fine with.
weirdly enough the reason i started listening to mm was when i donated to kexp radio in seattle a long time ago, they sent me a shirt that had 2 mice on it and one was telling the other "you're so great" and the other was saying "thank you, you're too kind" - a modest mouse shirt. so when i got that i figured well, i should at least probably start listening to them now, right?

Modest Mouse bored me when they headlined Riot Fest, so I happily moved over to the Prodigy to close the night; the Prodigy kicked my ass and I regret not seeing the whole set. I actually thought MM's 2018 set at Voodoo Fest was solid, certainly better than the Riot Fest one. If I remember correctly, the set was good, but their sound mix wasn't good where I was at.

One of my small venue brags is seeing Modest Mouse at the Bottle on the Moon And Antarctica tour.
Still don't care about seeing them again.

Dang... 2 pages of Modest Mouse talk. This board is so horny for any kind of live music at this point.

They have a lot more good than bad, although I understand how recent output weighs heavier in the court of public opinion.

Laughing Out Loud In Real Life at anyone calling Foo Fighters or Radiohead the "lamest band" when Imagine Dragons and 21 Pilots exist. 👆🏼 This. Naming bands who once created quality music, innovated, and influenced, while the list of bands whose entire catalog is trash is seemingly endless seems disingenuous.

Do we think Chance playing Summerfest puts him in play for Lolla or does that eliminate him? Not sure the status on the radius clause with headliners these days. I know he hasn't really been talked about as a possibility but who knows

I know he hasn't really been talked about as a possibility but who knows Radius clause definitely does not matter between Summerfest and Lolla. They gave up on enforcing that a while ago. My guess is that Chance's status has been falling since his last album tanked and that big tour he tried sold very badly, I don't know if any of the big fests will spend hte cash to get him to headline again.

It was in response to the Q about whether Summerfest artists are in play for Lolla, because I made a joke like a week ago about REO Speedwagon playing Lolla.
Actual Summerfest artists I hope cross over to Lollapalooza: Miley Cyrus, Wilco, 311 (although more likely for Riot Fest), Turkuaz/Harrison/Belew (yeah right, P4k maybe?), Future Islands, Psychedelic Furs, Liz Phair, Better Than Ezra, Ani DiFranco, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Filter (this would be amazing), Living Colour, Fishbone.

Late 90's and early 2000's Modest Mouse is top notch to me.. I was disappointed at the Riot Fest set, But there were definitely redeeming qualities.. Mostly Night on the Sun, Grey Ice Water, and Dark Center of the Universe personally. I would pay a lot of money if they ever did a Lonesome Crowded West album set.
Also everyone knows the lamest band is Shinedown... One of the worst things I've ever seen live.

Looks like A$AP Rocky is playing Summer Smash, so that's one less 4-8 headliner to pick from.
And since everyone else is doing it, my only Modest Mouse experience was seeing part of their set at Coachella a few years back. It was a year where lots of acts got their sound cut for going even a little over their time, so they got about 15 seconds into "Float On" and then just jammed in relative silence for the rest of the song.

I know he hasn't really been talked about as a possibility but who knows Chance's headlining set at Life is Beautiful at the end of 2019 was roundly panned by people there (I skipped it). That whole tour/album cycle was a mess, so I can't see him being booked for this year.

The most cringe part of the whole thing, beyond the public firing/feuding with his (now former) manager, was when he made the tour postponement and then cancellation announcements under the guise of wanting to spend more time with his children. Why not just go with the industry standard "production issues"? Why bring your children into it?

Expecting a big week in this thread. The lineup might let me down, but I hope you people don't. Yup, feels like this has to be it. Chicago lifts/evaluates restrictions in 2 week intervals, and all the major Chicago fests are clearly holding for something from the city.
Between the new cycle for restrictions falling this week and the IL Bridge phase starting on the 14th, I can't imagine them waiting any longer.

I still think Lolla is happening, but it is awfully stagnant right now for a festival of its size that is only 11 weeks away. If ticket sales for other festivals were struggling or Lolla was a newer festival without a strong logistical foundation and support from the city, I'd be very concerned.
But the numbers in the city, the state and the US at large have only gotten better since the first festivals were announced less than 2 weeks ago, when the Mayor, the city's top doc, and C3 all offered a winking response to the fate of Lolla. The city has repeatedly said they understand there is a long planning arc involved -- all but coming out and stating that they are coordinating and info sharing with C3 and other major promoters. If that wasn't happening, you'd likely be hearing from businesses/promoters about it -- griping about the lack of info and pushing for a more expedient reopening (as has been the case in the city where I live).
To me, the silence is evidence that things are being lined up and prepped. It's going to be a sprint for Lolla, for sure, but there have likely been benefits to waiting. As IL and the city move into later phases, less restrictions will be placed on them in terms of capacity and health requirements. If waiting allows them to announce a full capacity 4-day festival with relaxed distancing or mask restrictions (based on the latest data and science) or to utilize some city sponsored Vax Pass program to minimize liability, that's better than the logistical and financial uncertainty of a piecemeal rollout/ticket sale strategy.
I still anticipate we'll hear something this week, even if the formal on-sale isn't until next. After that, things would feel a lot more grim if there's been no movement.
