This is a thread to talk about horror because I want to talk about horror somewhere other than the general movie thread.

Potentially very cool news: Clive Barker has filed in court in California to reclaim the rights to Hellraiser. (He can do this because at the end of next year it will have been 35 years since he transferred the rights in 1986.)

In more recent news, Becky is kinda fun but it's also mean as fuck.

Both could still happen -- if Barker is successful in getting the rights back it wouldn't happen until the end of 2021, so the current rightsholders still have a year and a half to put something out. There's also the possibility that they'll just make a new deal with Barker w/r/t the current production.

I wish they didn't add the creatures. I thought the underground was scary enough

I wish they didn't add the creatures. I thought the underground was scary enough nah man those were sick as hell. my wife sat next to me and asked what i was watching right before the first one popped out and she jumped so high. it ruled.

I have been really catching up on horror recently. Some crossover from the movies thread, but recently I’ve watched The Stuff, Ice Cream Man, Piranha, The Mutilator, and Edge of the Axe.
Next up on my queue is actually Berserker, which avb has posted about.
I am excited to do another crazy marathon in october

The new Shudder original Host is a banger. It's only about an hour long but totally worth it.
Also, what should I rent from Amazon Prime: Relic or The Rental? Both of them seem to only have "OK" reviews.

Relic is straight up a great film, just not necessarily a super scary horror. it definitely has stuck with me more than any other film this year because of the subject matter and how it's handled. i dont know if the comparisons to Hereditary that i've been reading really make sense -- i think more of something like Don't Look Now or Jigoku where it's about emotions more than scares. maaaybe The Witch as far as pacing and tone are concerned.
The Rental looks a little bit more like a straightforward horror but maybe the trailer is misleading like The Beach House was. we'll probably watch it and Host soon.

I dug Relic and I'm usually not a fan of that type of slow burning horror. Very good.

Did you really think the Beach House trailer was misleading? I watched the movie without having seen the trailer first and I'm glad because, if anything, that trailer gave too much away.

Wait, did you think it was misleading because you accidentally watched the trailer for the 2018 Hallmark Channel drama with Andie MacDowell and Minka Kelly and instead got cosmic aquatic horror out of nowhere?

Host is like if the seance scene from Hereditary somehow found its way into Unfriended

I watched the movie without having seen the trailer first and I'm glad because, if anything, that trailer gave too much away. that's the thing i think the trailer showed what i thought would be a teaser for something bigger but then what happens in the trailer is literally all that happens in the movie. i guess not misleading but kinda disappointing? which is silly cause it's a good ass movie i just wanted more

Ohhhh, yeah, I get the "something bigger" part. I was absolutely expecting something to burst out of the boyfriend's body .
