Hello pals As previously stated I'm watching through TSPDT's top 1000 films. It's a cool list if you wanted to check it out.Anyways as a part of this I've noticed there's a bunch of directors I haven't seen a bunch of stuff from and have been going through systematically to see a bit more of their stuff. Over the course of this month I'll be watching a bunch of Luis Buñuel and Wong Kar-Wai films. Have seen a few but these are the ones I'll be watching. If you would like to watch some of the films of either of these guys, let me know and I'd love to discuss them with you. I've watched at least a few things from each of these guys in the past month or two so I'd be more than happy to talk about any of those, for a semi-comprehensive list of those my letterboxd is here.BuñuelThe Young and the Damned El Tristana The Phantom of Liberty That Obscure Object of Desire Wong Kar-WaiDays of Being Wild Happy Together 2046 Fallen Angels Will probably be doing this over several weeks in July and any/everyone is welcome to join!

I've been getting into both of them, if people want to watch other films by these directors I would also discuss them, I just wouldn't rewatch since it's probably been a single digit number of weeks since I've seen them. For those purposes I'll make lists of those too.
Luis Buñuel
Viridiana Un Chien Andalou L'Age D'Or The Exterminating Angel The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie Belle de Jour Land Without Bread Nazarin
Wong Kar-Wai
In the Mood for Love (will be rewatching soon) Chungking Express

I'm going to guess access to Criterion Channel is required to watch any of these movies?

Probably at least some of them but if access to the films is a barrier to entry for anyone let me know and I can provide some level of digital access as needed

Good call.
Looks like In the Mood for Love and Belle de Jour are available on HBO Max.

Also I just searched Belle de Jour again to add it my watch list and it for some reason also pulled up a John McCain documentary and now I'm triggered.

I agree that we should probably look to do only the movies the brothers directed and not each one individually but that might open a huge can of worms.

Started watching some stuff today, overall pretty happy with it.
Los Olvidados was great, a really interesting mix of the surreal Buńuel style that I didn't expect to see. For the most part it's pretty straightforward and the class commentary is really excellent.
El was good, I was really frustrated by the ending to it though because it seemed to contradict the entire story of the abusive relationship that was being told. Definitely in the "straightforward Buñuel" category vs the surreal stuff that largely came later (which I tend to prefer) but I have yet to really dislike anything of his.
WKW is a little difficult for me because his style takes getting used to. I've experienced this with the other two films of his I've seen but more so with Days of Being Wild than any other. Not entirely sure why that was but the last 45 minutes was really intense and well put together, and I have no doubt that I'll love it on another watch.
Happy Together was absolutely crushing but I loved it. Did not expect it to be as heartbreaking as it was.
Overall I really enjoyed these and I look forward to the others.

More fantastic Buñuel. I look forward to seeing some good restorations of his in the next few years. I read somewhere that Guillermo Del Toro is working on acquiring original negatives for some of the stuff that's harder to find but I don't know how true that is.
