A primer.I think the logo needs to change for sure and if that changes you might as well change the name too cause nobody calls them the Blackhawks except for this thread and all official merchandise and trademarks etc.

I personally am not offended by the imagery but it's not my place and "the right to use an offensive name/logo for a sports team" is among the dumbest hills to die on so if people are offended I think the organization is just going to need to deal with it. Make it a helicopter to support the troops or whatever white people love that shit

Renaming to the Hawks with that logo would be dope as hell.

I've seen this take a lot. I would think dressing an animal in native american dress would actually be more offensive than a logo that was intended to honor someone. It appears that any imagery is considered to be wrong.

I am wary of viewing the native American community as monolithic. I am sure there are some people who would find even the hawk logo to be offensive, regardless of who designed it

I've been torn about it for a long time, but I agree they should change the logo to something like this. When we were in Arizona about 2 years ago, I was wearing my Blackhawks hat while we were on a tour led by a Native American. I realized it about halfway through and felt like an ass. I've barely been wearing my jerseys for the last year or so for the same sort of reason. If they decided to change it, I would not be sad a bit.

Not like they're putting asterisks on the cups. People need to get over this if it's time to change. I am sure to be subject to some deplorable takes from my season ticket holder family members if this issue continues to gain steam.

if the team was named after a military unit, why have the logos always been native american?

if the team was named after a military unit, why have the logos always been native american? the military unit itself was named after Chief Black Hawk

I love that tommy hawk gives the Blackhawks a perfect opportunity to distance themselves from appropriation and they just have him run around banging a drum
They will definitely make a smart decision

I have no place to say how the native american community should feel about the logo. If they find it offensive then the logo and nickname need to be changed. There's no argument that can be made against that.
The Blackhawks can have the best intentions for it to honor someone, but if it is not seen that way then they are missing the mark even if the the name is not demeaning (Redskins) or the logo is not degrading (Chief Wahoo - Indians).
Any nickname, logo, or mascot depicting humans can be considered offensive should the group it represents feel offended. Pat the Patriot, the Yankees, Swinging Frair. The Washington Nationals dress people up as the founding fathers and have them race around the warning track as they fall and run into things. All similarly representative of American culture, but the country just chooses not to care or isn't as proud I guess.

I see this a lot but if the idea is to get away from Native American imagery this doesn't accomplish that. They need to change and someday somebody (be it a sponsor, the league, or enough fans) will force it and the fact that they can't see it coming annoys me as a fan.

It's a start. If I'm the Wirtz family I don't want to be like Dan Snyder where you basically stick your head in the sand until your sponsors embarrass you into changing the name.
Trickster is walking distance from Mama Dentist so will for sure be going there. Little context I feel like I should add here -- the guy who runs trickster now is the guy who used to run the American Indian Center back when they had a relationship with the Hawks. New leadership of AIC probably was not consulted on this if I had to guess -- they ended the relationship in 2018(?) I think.

Legit question:
Did the Blackhawks sell the headdresses at their team stores?
