Does Quiznos still exist?
Edit: Yes, they have one location left in Chicago.

subtitles totally distract me and i can’t stand them. i just turn the sound up, and i don’t watch foreign films.
started watching uncut gems on dvd last week and for some reason i couldn’t get subtitles to turn off and i was *this* close to just not watching because they covered half the screen. for whatever reason they switched off on their own and i finished the movie (which was fantastic).
i also have a really good sounding speaker system so i’m happy to turn it up loud ;-)

I try and get by without them for comedies, but otherwise yes.

i don’t watch foreign films. Damn dude, why? You're missing out on so many terrific movies. Also trying to figure out why your subtitles would take up so much of the screen - never seen them be more than a line or two at the very bottom of the screen.

subtitles for foreign language movies.
my girlfriend watches a lot with subtitles and i dislike that the captioning is awful for comedies. we watched Brooklyn 99 in the spring and at least once an episode the captions gave a punchline too early.

Also trying to figure out why your subtitles would take up so much of the screen - never seen them be more than a line or two at the very bottom of the screen. yeah i don't know about the size thing - it seems to be different on different dvd's and different networks but also my tv is 15 years old? the main reason for me not watching foreign films is the subtitles. i've got a 1-track mind when it comes to watching tv and i have to focus on the screen and what's going on and be able to listen to the dialogue. if i watch the closed captioning and try and keep up with what's going on on the screen also i lose the impact of one or the other. i know, it's weird...

But wait why do you have a really good speaker system but a 15 year old TV? ask my wife ;–) i've tried and tried and tried to upgrade to a bigger better fancier hdtv, but this one still works. maybe i need to accidentally knock it off the console?

I remember thinking that with my old TV and then how blown away I was when we finally caved and got a new one. The subtitles are especially vivid.

Plus, if you aren't on a tight budget, good brand name TVs are pretty cheap now a days for a good one.

but man it still works just fine If the TV is really 15 years old the processor is probably not able to keep up with sports or movies with fast paced action scenes. You might not even notice since it's what you're used to but if you upgrade the difference will be like night and day.

also having subtitles on is never a bad thing imo. i dont always have them on but anytime my neighbor is being a shitbag or the audio is mixed like a Nolan film it's pretty dang helpful and never detracts from anything

Let me just say that reading the Quiznos Wikipedia page is depressing as hell, especially the legal issues section
