I couldn't find a thread.
Anyway, any predictions for the Big 6?
Apparently, the following are considered Locks:
BP/BD = Nomadland
B sup. Actor = Kaluuya
Then, a bit interesting here: B sup Actress = Youn should win (but Colman closing fast) - still predicting Youn
B. Actor = Went from a Boseman Lock to a fast closing Anthony Hopkins - still predicting Boseman (but here is where the upset could happen)
And, super interesting:
Mulligan was considered a Mortal Lock until Davis won the SAG.
Now the race is considered a 4-way race between Mulligan, Davis, Day, and McDormand.
In this toughest category to predict, I am sticking with MULLIGAN. . Anybody else want to go on record for Big 6 Predictions before showtime?

I don't really care about any of them, which is nice. Of the Best Pic nominees, I think I've only seen Minari, Nomadland, and Sound of Metal. I liked Nomadland most of those three, but whatever.

Predictions: (I think it should go to...)
Best Picture - Nomadland (Minari or Sound of Metal) Best Actor - Anthony Hopkins (Riz Ahmed) Best Actress - Frances McDormand (Francis McDormand) Best Supporting Actor -Lakeith Stanfield (Lakeith Stanfield or Paul Raci) Best Supporting Actress - Yuh-Jung Youn (Yuh-Jung Youn or Olivia Coleman) Best Director - Chloe Zhao (Chloe Zhou)
I didn't see the following films that have a nomination in the Big-six categories:
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom One Night in Miami The United States vs Billie Holiday Pieces of a Woman Hillbilly Elegy Another Round

Trial of Chicago 7 for everything even if it wasn't nominated.

Just a reminder that the Oscars have technically started, as the preshow is where all the best song performances are happening.

It’s so absurd that my octopus teacher wins best documentary. Time, collective, and crip camp are all exceptional.

I'm not crazy to think the only reason the Oscars are this late this year is cause of the ongoing pandemic right?

That was 1st "Upset" HER Won an Oscar At +2500 Odds Wish I would’ve bet on that then. In the DraftKings Oscar pool, it was picked in 31% of entries (highest of the 5 nominees)

Why did they not close with Best Picture? Best Actor last for Chadwick?

I assume that was Soderbergh tipping the hat to actors. They may have done it in case Boseman won, but it really did end up being a bit anticlimactic having the show end on a winner that wasn't present, even if it was a surprise. Meanwhile, Zhao had a historic night and that sorta got diminished by the order change. All in all, kind of a sucky choice.

An all timer fuck up of an ending to reshuffle the awards like that for no reason. Phenomenal stuff that's showbiz baby. At least this time it wasn't the CPAs faults.
I read the gift baskets have a Chadwick NFT in them?? So good.

The most satisfying part that no one's talking about is that Trial of the Chicago 7 won zero Oscars, the only one of this year's Best Picture nominees to accomplish that feat.

Anybody else want to go on record for Big 6 Predictions before showtime? Like was mentioned several times on Twitter, Etc. This Hopkins Win leading to the end of show clusterfukk is absolute proof that the producers hsve no idea who will win. Obviousy, they (like most people) thought that Boseman was going to win. It was an, inexpiicably, horrible move to not reveal BP as last award (keeping with tradition). So instead of the show ending with Frances howling like a wolf, we had this awkward moment with Hopkins not there and Phoenix with a comical look on his face abruptly ending the show while people were still trying to process the upset. Obviously, they were hoping for some dramatic ending with someone accepting award on Bosemsn's behalf. A Show-Ending Tribute of sorts, that would have been helped (immeasurably) by the fact that the speeches were allowed to go long (w/o play off music). After both leads for MRBB Won at the SAGS, many people thought all of the 4 acting awards would be swept by POC. (3 Blacks and an Asian). The Supportings were engraved in stone, but the 2 Lead Oscars went to others. Even at the end, many people were still thinking MRBB could sweep both awards, and they got neither. McDormand's win (while not as big of an "upset" as Hopkins) was still rather unexpected. Most people thought that if Mulligan lost, it would go to Davis. Obviously, the Awards for Frances and Anthony were eminently well-deserved.

Viola and Chadwick should have won, but other than that the Academy did a good job this year with the major categories.
