This would be the best decision they have made in decades. Bears have a bottom 5 stadium in the NFL with one of the strongest fan bases. Their hands are tied at Soldier Field. Moving to Arlington Heights makes attending games extremely difficult for anyone coming from the city or south suburbs. Does Arlington Heights have the infrastructure in place for a 70k+ stadium? South suburbs, I can see being difficult. For city folks, just take the UP-NW. If Metra increases the amount of trains, they'll make so much $$. edit: what scoots said

Moving to Arlington Heights makes attending games extremely difficult for anyone coming from the city or south suburbs. Does Arlington Heights have the infrastructure in place for a 70k+ stadium? One of the main reasons for moving the stadium is due to how difficult it is to get to Soldier Field. It is a gridlock on gamedays because there is only one way in and out. The site in Arlington is surrounded by highway with a ton of room for parking. Metra stops right in front of the stadium and will definitely have non-stop train options from the city. Comparing the net time people would spend getting to AH vs Soldier Field I think AH would win.

It does piss me off that the Bears absolutely botched the Soldier Field renovation and can walk away with zero accountability (and a relatively small amount of money paid to the city). The city tried to go all "bright side" with their response to the Arlington Heights move, but I don't think having the Chicago Fire as the primary tenant is a great future for that stadium.

Driving from the city out west using 90 is a nightmare. I can't imagine what a Bears game would be like.
The train works but it eliminates the option for tailgating. Also, most people would need to catch it downtown, and most people don't live downtown. Factoring the time it takes for people to get to Union station, and then back after the game, I don't think it would be faster than getting to Soldier Field currently.

I'm assuming this new stadium should pull in some big concerts too, so that is a win for me to not have to get to Soldier Field for those.
That corridor from 53 to the park is going to be just a massive logjam on game days. They're building up a new shopping center type thing just west of the stadium site too, so that is going to add to the mess. But yeah, there's already tons of space for parking.

i'm not a Bears fan so I don't have a stake in this, but it would be awesome to have future Super Bowls and Final Fours in the Chicagoland area.

Driving out west on 90 is a nightmare during rush hour. Not Sunday mornings. It's lighter on Sundays but there's still traffic from people going to O'Hare.

Not that anything about this is funny, however, I find the fact that this all came from the Washington Football Team investigation somewhat amusing

ESPN writers had access to the Gruden emails months ago did nothing with them after consulting with the NFL. Also speculation that the emails were leaked only after Goodell had asked Davis to suspend Gruden this past weekend or at least just not have him coach and Gruden coached anyway.
There is zero chance there's not a shitload of other people implicated in the documents the league had access to through the Washington/Snyder investigation. There were something like 600k documents and this was just a small glimpse. It'd be nice if there were some decent sports journalists around to poke the story a bit more.

the national media is finally starting to pick it up. seems like it's taken forever for those outlets in the nfl's pocket to start paying attention.

Not so fun fact: previous times the Bears gave up 35 points in the first half were both during the Trestman era and were in back to back games. With a bye week in between. He wasn't fired until the end of the year.
