We (I) needed this thread back! The stupid deal of the day is screamin for anyone looking for a nice bass cab. I just recently bought the PVH-1516 else I'd buy it (still might for shits). Find a used 200-400w micro head and you got yourself a nice, sufficient gigging rig.

We actually did need this thread back but no one wanted to post in it!
What's your go-to "just pick it up and play something" riff? Mine is "Shove" by L7.

"Merry Go Round" - The Replacements has been my go-to for soundchecks since I can remember.

For some reason I always do Shine by Collective Soul because I learned it my first year taking guitar lessons and it’s also really fucking obnoxious if you play it 40 times in a row

Unrelated, but I've been playing piano quite a bit lately. I can just throw on headphones and practice without disturbing my roommate.
My "go and play something" piano riff is Coldplay's 'Clocks', because I figured it out myself.

I guess when I'm just fucking around on other peoples' stuff, it's RATM or Soundgarden or some other random 90s rock song. This week we decided to work on a Placebo cover, so there's gonna be a lot of that.

Blackbird is my go to.
At least it's not Wonderwall?

good.
f'real i havent heard of a single reputable guitar player speaking positively about them for at least a decade now. they've pretty frequently treated their high profile clients like shit and they can't even get most amateurs to try their shit because it's so expensive. they put themselves in no man's land by pushing shittier epiphone products with PRS level prices and absolutely no good PR behind it all.

There does actually tend to be a massive difference in quality between the more expensive models and the budget lines, but anything beyond the $1500 mark seems outrageously overpriced to me, unless it's a boutique brand guitar where there's literally 1-3 people who hand-whittle them.
I have two Leo Fender-designed basses, an EB Stingray that retails for $1900 (paid $850 slightly used) and a Mexican-made Fender Precision that I got for $500 new. I've since put about $200 of custom work into the Fender and it's my go to bass. Light as a feather, plays great. The Stingray has a very unique percussive tone that doesn't necessarily work great for everything and it's relatively heavy, but hey... I can tell the paint finish is top notch.
It's all personal preference, really, but you gotta be especially particular if you're going to pay over $2k for a guitar, imo. I've had my eye on Reverend basses for quite a bit now. They come in limited, hand-made runs and are priced around $900.
Yeah, Gibson shot themselves in the foot.

Most of Epiphone’s higher end models are much nicer the Gibson’s low end stuff at this point.

Hamer made better Gibson guitars than Gibson did/does.

I picked up my strat from Chicago fret works today. I fucked up some soldering while trying to change my pick guard and knew I needed the help of a professional before I made it worse. They suggested I have them work on a few other things and I'm so happy with how it turned out. It feels like a totally different instrument. Now I have a white pick guard on and off white body and it looks so much better than I had imagined.

I want to put Lace pickups in my Strat (like Billy Corgan, lawl) but I'm not sure whether I can do the work myself. They sell a preloaded pickguard that's probably easier than trying to put them in individually.

I rewired two of my basses with zero prior soldering experience. It's not that hard, but I wouldn't be afraid to buy a pre-wired pickguard, either. Guitars are fun to mod! <3

Welp... Pretty sure I just pulled the trigger (heh) on a black Reverend Thundergun. Just waiting to confirm with the seller.

It's gorgeous, but it needs a new nut and I couldn't really play it right away. Fortunately, I have a friend who builds guitars and is gonna fix it up cheap (bassist from Black Powder whom y'all should check out).

Replaced my Rat clone with an EHX Russian Big Muff Pi, now I got a muff fuzz on each of my effects chains.
Also, just ordered that DigiTech Luxe detuner pedal, which is on sale for $40. Digitech/DOD shut down so lots of their stuff is clearing out, so keep an eye on it, pedal hounds (me).
The DOD Gunslinger distortion is on sale as well for $32. Very nice pedal.

Like 12 years ago I got an OG Rat with a box of faulty cables at an auction for like $2. Thing still sounds amazing.

tempted to go to chicago music exchange and waste some of my bonus on things i dont need (tho i actually do need some new cables and probably a pedal or 2)
meanwhile tho i bought a solid starter microphone and soundproof fabrics for the walls in the basement room so i can basically make a studio and do proper recordings of things.
im sure nothing good will come of it but aye it's a hobby

CME is sooo overpriced. There's always folks on Craigslist trying to unload studio gear and you can usually talk them down to selling their stuff for pretty cheap

Buy all the things. Yolo.
*Offer less on used stuff. I got a Stingray for $800 down from $1200 on Reverb.

The David Gilmour guitar auction is happening and these prices are insane and they haven't even got to his famous black strat yet.

I wish. While a Gilmour guitar would be nice I think given unlimited money I would chase down the Cliff Burton bass that was auctioned off a few years back.
