You actually got me in one of those pedal demo rabbit holes when you started talking tube amps, because it reminded me that I really would like to "rebuild" my tone and get as far away from digital as I can.
When I was playing in a U2 tribute (hence the AC30), I inherited a Line 6 Pod HD500X that basically seemed like the only swiss army knife I'd ever need at my feet. With like every U2 song having super particular effect settings, I couldn't have done without it. Now that I'm not in that band, I'm noticing how difficult it is to get a good honest tone out of it apart from it being a good utility. So, my mission is to do away with is and keep it on its own isolated board in case I ever get called to be the edge.
Main rig is a PRS SE Singlecut into:
tc tuner > tc compressor> Gamechanger PLUS sustainer > 10 band eq > pod hd500x (covers gain, boost, trem, delay, & verb, up to 4 per preset) > digitech loop station > orange ??W amp (probably 20 but the fucker screams)
I was so happy to ditch fender amps, which were the only ones I'd ever owned in like...15 years of guitar playing. I love the orange so much and I feel like I'm under-utilizing it by having a huge amp modeler sitting in front of it.

All great stuff to hear! I'm especially tickled you were in a U2 tribute band. I have an Adam Clayton Jazz and AD singer's idol is Bono. I've also seen them four or five times now, only once in Charlotte. Is the Orange one of the micro terrors? One of the mini tube heads or a combo? 20w tube is plenty for gigging for guitar, potentially overkill for small clubs. 20w solid state would run out of air pretty quick in a larger space. I got that "used" Quilter Tone Block for $270 shipped and it appears brand new. It's a monster. My 800w Bass Block replaced a 1000w Mark Bass Little Mark Ninja. I blew that amp. The Quilter is at least 50% louder. Okay, no more Quilter jizzing for now. Are you playing in any bands currently?

The Orange is a 20w combo that I think I got for like $200 new which felt like a steal for one of their products. I haven't played a gig with it but I'd definitely need more juice to compete with a band. No bands at the moment, either. I wouldn't mind playing with a cover band / bar band again but probably am not at the point in my life where I'd commit to an original project unless it just magically happened. I blew part of an amp once in the middle of a u2 gig and was able to go direct out from the hd500x to the mix, which was a lifesaver, but I thought sounded like ass.

I had no interest in doing it. My guitarist was teaching my singer guitar and they twisted my arm for weeks to come over with my bass, which I hadn't played in over a decade. We wrote most of a whole song the first day and then four more over like five months. I still said I would never get on stage, but eventually, it was too late. I don't think we were very good then (and didn't at the time, either), but I guess I'm glad I entertained it and pushed through. Ego is at the wheel now, I think. Strange road.

re: tube vs. solid state amps. My primary amps were solid state from like mid-'80s through the early to mid-'90s. Back then, solid state guitar amps really sucked. My first tube amp was a Peavey tweed and it was a huge step in the right direction.
The last amp I purchased was a Kingsley Deluxe 30 (basically a Canadian hand-built AC30) and it's the perfect amp for me. Got it about 20 years ago. It has a switch that defeats the tone stack (which is the best pure sound imo) as well as a half power switch when 30 watts is too loud. Oh and there's a footswitchable built-in boost for solos which is also great. It's super responsive and easy to dial in a spot where digging in a little with your attack pushes the amp to break up in a lovely way.
Anyway, the modeling amps/pedals I've tried never sounded remotely close to a good tube amp. Admittedly, I haven't tried the latest generation of solid state/modeling amps and it would be nice to have something less back-breaking than the Kingsley, but it's hard to lay off the tubes when you're a guitarist.

The Quilters aren't modeling amps. They're pure clean class D power amps, no coloration. Both the "Block" series amps I have have 1-2 very simple trim controls. Try one if you see one!

ermahgerd Reverend will be shipping a root beer sparkle Mike Watt Wattplower II. I was hoping these would be delayed a few months. This will be my last bass (check the inlays).

Another new bass model announced yesterday. Jap only right now, I think. Pretty sweet, imho.
