what i saw of MCR sounded good. but i left after a half-hour. i was on the far side of the other stage where the crowd was spread out nicely.
cloud nothings were quite good too. bleachers is awful. is portugal the man a cover band? i heard them cover weezer and nirvana. rocket from the crypt was fine; weird album for them to play in full, they seemed more into the 3 non-album songs. alkaline trio was also fine, somehow the first time i'd seen them since 2000.

The sound for MCR was spotty. I started back towards the bars and Riot Mall and it was real quiet and thin. I don't think they had the second set of speakers on. I worked my way around by the Malort tent and the sound was much better and it was much emptier crowd-wise as well.

PtM does half covers for most of their sets and the covers are all bad. Easy skip today.

I’ve been informed they were one of the best fest headliners ever This is correct. Best Riotfest headliner since The Replacements

Twitter makes it sound like the MCR set was some sort of hellscape so I'd be interested to see what the board saw Marky Ramone playing drums. I hadn't seen him live since aragon brawlroom show in '88 where the lineup was the Dickies-> Ramones-> Iggy Pop.

PtM does half covers for most of their sets and the covers are all bad. Easy skip today. When I saw them in March they were covering Pantera and Metallica. That would have been way more appropriate for Riot Fest. Def experiencing somw FOMO reading all these posts. The step back thing reminds me of SoaD in 2015. I don't miss the clusterfuck that is leaving the festival, I hope everyone got home safe.

Catching up on tweets now and it sounds like Gerard stopping the show after every song was 100% necessary

Apparently people had a lot of issues with rude crowds yesterday. That didn't happen to me, but I also wasn't really close for any set. They really do need another water refill station. Part of the reason the line for drinks was so long was people buying water since they didn't want to wait in the refill lines. Cell service was terrible and the festival still needs more lights, but that's par for the course with this fest. Still had a very fun night the SDRE aftershow was great.

I thought the lines for everything were insane yesterday. The artist merch tent had a line at least 50 people deep the entire width of the tent. Multiple food lines stretched nearly entirely across the field with the cover on it. The water filling station line stretched nearly all the way back to the entrance at times (and it wasn't even that hot). Year after year there are so many little things this fest never bothers to fix that seem like low hanging fruit. Maybe moving it and forcing them to re-examine their logistics isn't the worst thing.

MCR was great I thought, though kind of a bummer they had to make everyone step back every single song. A little crazy where Krentist and I were but not worse than any lolla crowd I’ve been in “Time to play everyone’s favorite game… take a step back! And another step back! And another step back! Ya see, the people up front are getting terribly smushed”

Odd thing that just occurred to me... despite all the long lines for everything all day, I never had to wait in a line for a port-a-potty.

agreed on all line issues. the full-time water fountain across the street from the fest water station was doing a lot of work too. food lines were wild. when i entered, the artist merch lines crossed the entire street. even when i left during MCR the merch lines were 10-15 people deep.
also agreed that they need more lighting. i don't know how anyone takes the risk of sitting down on the big field once the sun goes down.

Y’all think they oversold yesterday? Honestly, I don't think so. They were understaffed and unprepared, but there was plenty of room still. It's up to them to decide if they want to hook another huge name like MCR, or if they want to stick with the same limited roster of headliners

Y’all think they oversold yesterday? I'm not sure, I can't remember the last time this festival sold out. Yesterday felt oversold, but it was also the only day that sold out so far

Y’all think they oversold yesterday? Honestly, I don't think so. They were understaffed and unprepared, but there was plenty of room still. It's up to them to decide if they want to hook another huge name like MCR, or if they want to stick with the same limited roster of headliners I think the issue was that there was no competing act for the last hour+. I imagine their ticket cap hasn't changed since they moved to Douglass Park, but EVERYONE was in the same place from 8:45 on. My issue was I got used to last year's crowd situation. I was easily able to walk up 10-15 rows deep for Slipknot, Pumpkins, and Morrissey (skipped RtJ) by sliding along house right of the main stage. I thought I'd be able to do the same this year. But even TBS was tight to the VIP rail along that right side alley. I thought that MCR's crowd might have been the largest one I've ever seen at a Riot Fest. Food lines were crazy. My wife went at 3:30...not "prime time" by any stretch and it took her 45 minutes to get 4 shitty tacos. I tried to go during Bleachers and spent 45 minutes and never got close to the front of the line. I gave up and went back to MCR. Even my old reliable the Czech place with kraut and sausages that usually has zero line was backed up across the street. The merch line phenomenon is pervasive and weird. It's every show and every festival now. I can remember watching "The Hu" at Riot Fest a couple of years ago and immediately walking over and buying a shirt with no line. Now you can't get anything with less than an hour wait. We skipped today... a rare dud of scheduling for our personal taste. Not expecting anything to be any easier tomorrow.

yesterday was a pretty good day. lines were much better for food, water, and merch. it didn't seem nearly as crowded as friday. i enjoyed all of the bands i wanted to see.
is it just me, or are there a lot of small children this year? i've seen many babies and toddlers. i can't imagine bringing a kid that young, especially the ones that can't walk yet.
