got no problem w/ booting heatwave and lyrical lemonade from douglass park, or from the chicagoland area completely.
and if we can get back humboldt, I'm okay w/ riot fest leaving douglass, so I can actually drive there and park, instead of using public transportation as I do now.

I honestly don't blame the community for being fed up. Three festivals shutting down the park for more than half of the summer is not right.

Hell yeah Riot Fest Hoffman Estates 2023 If Lolla leaves I wouldn't be surprised if Riot Fest moved into Grant Park.

Does Riot Fest have the cachet for the city to approve their use of Grant Park? I know it isn't but I still think of it as a smaller local fest, not the 100k people a day mess that is Lolla.

I'm sure the city would weigh its options and might even try to market to a different or new festival if Lolla decides to leave, but Riot Mike has mentioned Grant Park in the past. I would expect they would at least try. Riot Fest is never going to attract 100k a day, but they could still bring in large crowds and use a smaller footprint of the park as well.

They do tons of events and I think a sticking point in the Lolla negotiations is that the city wants to be able to host other music festivals there. I understand how the Taste has an exception but somehow they were able to sneak Pride In The Park in as well. The city wants to squeeze as much cash out of Grant Park as possible.

I understand how the Taste has an exception but somehow they were able to sneak Pride In The Park in as well. Also Suenos this year (although C3 was a partner in the event, so may have had an inside track in obtaining permission to be there). But, Suenos also offers a possible footprint for a smaller festival since they blocked off from the stairs South of the fountain to Roosevelt (leaving the fountain platform and the North side available to the public), and while Columbus was closed, the area between Columbus and Michigan was also not part of the footprint. I just don't think Riot Fest could put any more than 3-4 stages in that same smaller footprint. They'd almost have to go back to side-by-side mains and a third stage on the LSD side of Balbo, maybe a small stage in the Kidza area? Interesting to consider, though.

If all these fests are getting kicked out, I would happily welcome a small 3-stage fest to Horner Park.

Weird question, But does anyone know if they will let you upgrade to Deluxe VIP for 1 day if you bought a 3 day VIP wristband? We were thinking about trying to upgrade for Sunday to check it out and see if it would be worth it to spring for the deluxe next year. According to the FAQ it has to be the same type of ticket (3 day for a 3 day), but that is more talking about doing it before the festival and not actually on site. Just figured I'd ask here and see if anyone had any more insight.

I've read multiple articles this summer about how the residents and businesses in Douglass Park are over the festivals being there. Between Summer Smash, Heatwave and Riot Fest parts of the park are inaccessible for residents for almost half of the summer. They want their park back and I don't blame them. These festivals need to find a new location next year.

I clicked this thread on mobile this morning and saw Mookie saying "this isn't a good look", but I somehow accidentally clicked the White Sox tweet instead thinking it was the same post, and I thought for a second the implication was partnering with the White Sox was not a good look

that meeting was a brutal look for riot fest. but i am curious how it compares to other fest community meetings. what did the pitchfork meeting look like? what does a typical lolla meeting look like?
i'm also curious what other parks are realistic for riot fest. i'd love it to be back in humboldt. but is there actually anything farther north that works for their footprint?

Listening to this audio, they need to move the festival. Also, could they have sent a worse representative for the fest? I agree with his points that Riot Fest has tried to do more to give back than the other fests, but he's so confrontational about it.

i am as a rule pretty skeptical about taking the views expressed at a community meeting with a dozen people in attendance as meaningfully reflective of the attitudes of the larger community without more information to back that up, but it is pretty impressive how riot fest approached this as poorly as humanly possible
i'm always astonished when an organization doing something this high profile is not even able to do the cynical bare minimum "we see you, we hear you, we'll take that into consideration" bullshit that gets trotted out there by anybody with a baseline level of competence
