Some of this shit is so trifling it's funny. One of the 19 biggest misevaluations in your site's 25-year history is bumping up the score on Charlift's last LP by less than a point? And, like, I was no fan of Grimes' last record, but that shit came out last year. It's not a great endorsement of your editorial team that you're already ready to knock it down.

Discovery is one of the only true perfect albums though so I'm going to give them a pass on this whole thing for acknowledging that.

it is wild to think back to how influential that site was in the early 2000s. there are several albums that i (and many friends) would probably never have listened to if not for rave reviews.
i also find it hilarious that they only chose 19. they couldn't even find one other dated review to make it an even 20?

Lmao yea this is both very boring and pretty wild. Love to see the Swifties getting folklore all the way up to #68 lmaooo. Was also shocked to see NFR in the top 20, but that's stan culture for ya. More genuinely, I love seeing Blonde continue to be canonized in lists like this. Also scrolled until I found The Monitor (162) . As long as it's somewhere on here, I'm, happy.

Love that newly decided 7.0 "just ok" album Turn on the Bright Lights is 22 overall. Way to fail to read the room, Pitchfork.

New #1 song of the 90s, Malkmus' dethroned! Albums tomorrow, is OK Computer gonna be replaced by No Doubts Tragic Kingdom?

Pitchfork and Rolling Stone re-doing all these lists to make their mags seem less like real boudin blanc-fests. Well, let me tell you, I remember and they're not fooling me. Fake allies.

I'm glad they included stuff like Smog and Fiona's When the Pawn but there's a lot of exclusions that were replaced with silly ones.

I assume it's purely woke reasons that Pinkerton is no longer a top 150 album of the 90s, right?

Loveless returns to number 1! this is hindsight with rose colored glasses. this band wasn't really well enough known to the music populace before they went missing in action for a decade and a half.

Everyone on reddit and elsewhere is bemoaning the death of the 90s indie rock canon, but we all knew that was coming. Am I said to see Spiritualized, GBV, and Pavement shunted down the food chain? Sure. But all things considered, this one was a pretty decent list, IMO.
That said! I think the more interesting trend is the subtle upending of the classic rap canon. Sure, all of these are still in the top 50 or so, but - damn! Some major, major names of the decade all pushed out of the top 20 in a very heavily hip-hop weighted list. Is Illmatic Dad rock now? How is All Eyez On Me so low? S/o to Wu-Tang for hanging onto the Top 5 and congrats to Ms. Lauryn Hill for the completing rise of Miseducation to the top of the Rolling Stone and Pitchfork lists.
