how tf did they listen to that Wolf Parade album and think 6.7? Even 7.4 would be low. It most definitely is exactly an 8.7. because it sucks

I thought BNM was decided between the people at the office and the score is chosen by the writer. It may very well be, or at least was the way they did it. I'm not basing my opinion on any factual data, just a hunch from the way reviews have been since Conde Nast took over.

In 2017, pitchfork gives a higher score to a Lil Pump album than a Wolf Parade album. I don't know what is even worth speculating anymore.

I think it depends on if her next track gets a BNT or not. These days 1 BNT doesn't equate to a BNM anymore, whereas it used to. Turn Out the Lights just got BNT, so maybe my estimate of 8.0 is a tad low...i'll go 8.3 now, and BNM

While I feel that will be closer to my personal score, i'm predicting 8.0 Appointments did get a BNT and they've been talking her up quite a bit. I guess we'll see once they review the track she put out today. She's 2/2 for BNT. I will beer bet anyone she gets a BNM.

Yeah Julien Baker's totally getting a BNM. Fresh faced artist with one solid album under her belt, plus she's a Christian lesbian from the South which is something the reviewer can focus on to tout despite it being irrelevant. I'm gonna stick with 8.5 tho 8.3 would work too.

I won't have ant qualms with the number but the review itself is trash and just feels like they're quoting lyrics.

the bell witch review is actually quite nice. the wild beasts one is kinda obnoxious.
also had no idea fever ray was karin from the knife (just knew it was an act you guys were hyped about last week) so now im kinda curious what that album is like.

I'm glad they didn't bury the Bell Witch record like people are doing over at sputnik, it's really annoying. But then again, there's mostly trolls on that site.
It's weird, I don't really care for the Knife, but I dig Fever Ray. Both of her records are great imo.

Just saw that lol. I didn't read it because it is spoiler-tagged but I find the overwhelming majority of their TV/movie commentary to be cringey.

I'm shocked no one here is talking about the Demi Lovato album that got a 7.2

Their pieces on nearly anything that isn't explicitly music are usually terrible
