8.7 doesn't surprise for that. I think part of it is b/c she's very popular now, and likely the best thing in country music in years. Plus they need to make up for not giving her a BNM on her last two.
6.4 for MF DOOM/Czarface is weak.

In the new Entertainment Weekly, Kacey said 'Mother' was inspired by an acid trip.

Yeah I would've guessed 8.4 but she deserves it.

It's definitely better than I expected. I didn't care for Bodak Yellow, but the album is enjoyable. 8.7 seems a bit high, but it's getting praise across the board so it's not surprising.

That's not really surprising coming from them. They've been anti-Eels for awhile.
Some upcoming predictions.
APC: 5.8 Grouper: 8.4 Janelle Monae : 9.0

I also think it’s adorable that they praise electro-shock blues so much but couldn’t be bothered to include it on their best of 1998 list last month

That review weirdly makes me want to listen to the album.
Unrelated but I'm gonna be bold and predict a 8.0 for Post Malone

p4k covering APC, Manson w/ X Japan, and everything Wes Borland does is a real commitment to a shtick i thought they had finally given up on. buttrock never dies!

Very surprised Dirty Computer didn't even get a BNM. It's got a 92 on metacritic. Two BNTs seemed like a given for the album to get at least an 8. Review is positive tho. Methinks it'll crack their album list.

i get the writer's not getting to pick BNM but the fact that they don't get to help pick the scores is kinda asinine.
also since ktd isnt on the new board, i'll say it for him. Brent DiCrescenzo is the fucking worst.

I'm presuming that p4k at some level gets a few of their writers to score it, and combines them. I'd honestly be interested to see them list a review with multiple individual scores.

Good article - and one could make the argument that the career that's been killed the most by bad reviews is Brent's.

I've been thinking for awhile that they did it this way. I suppose it makes sense, somewhat, but it still seems stupid to have someone else deem the quality of the work. This was a new writer, so I'm kind of surprised that they gave such a high profile review to her. But it continues in the vein that I think Schrieber makes all of the final decisions on everything - high scores, album list, song list, etc. This one is super baffling though. Even if you don't like Dirty Computer, it's getting unanimous praise from all major outlets and is currently the highest scoring album on Metacritic. It's from a pansexual black woman, it's anti-Trump, it's poppy, and has one of the best singles of the year on it. Maybe it's Conde Nast.
Then again, maybe this is all on purpose just to get us all talking about it. Who knows.
