He was so goddamned lost until someone (Xam?) yelled “TEN15” at him and he found us. I see where I get my wanderlust from

Anyone ever taken the western bus to this thing? is this dumb or actually smart? did you do it/was it dumb or smart? considering it tomorrow. Took it home. If it’s convenient to your route it’s great

I can also recommend the Kedzie bus. Took it to Logan Square, then hopped in an Uber. A+

More words on day one:
Haven't gone wire to wire at a day of a fest in quite some time, but that was such a great day of live music. I didn't start drinking until 4 which helped both my wallet and my head this morning. Those ticket giveway dumps they did through Do312 worked well, the fest was packed after work hours. I got to witness the awkwardness of seeing bands cover the same song back to back twice. 1st, Sum 41 (I enjoyed their set way more than I was expecting) covered "We Will Rock You" before Flogging Molly did the same, on the same stage. Then, while waiting in the main stage pit for Weezer, I heard Young The Giant cover "All The Small Things" to honor Blink. Weezer had planned to do the same, and acknowledged as such before doing their own version of the same song. Great start to Riot Fest, looking forward to day two!
TL;dr Riot Fest rulez.

Oh, and my transportation tip:
If you're taking the Pink line, get on/off at Kedzie. Shorter walk to the festival gate, and you beat the California crowd (and will get a seat after a long day of standing) going home.

Oh as soon as they got rid of the entrance at 18th and California after year one in Douglas Park I figured this out, but for whatever reason the fest still advertises the California stop as the best way to go.

downtown at office; figure if I leave by 11:45 or so, I can catch speedy ortiz, even if the pink line is slow, and even if it takes a while to go through the line at the riot fest entrance.
probably will cut out the little bit of flor and the little bit of typesetter, and the little bit of hobo j and maybe the front bottoms, because I don't want to exhaust myself for the whole weekend during the first day.
I'm also coming from downtown, but I'm going to leave a little later than you. Hoping to catch Speedy but NBD if I miss, as long as I'm there for Liz. the things I had to do for the better half got resolved quickly, so I made it inside the park in time for right before speedy ortiz, and ran into ten15, ferro, rango, and driftwood almost immediately. speedy wasn't as good as I had hoped, I'll give them a B+. blood people were solid A. the fever 333, who I had only planned to hear a little of, were A+, and I stayed for the whole thing. They're a junior version of RATM. saw the end of lagwagon, who suffered a little because they weren't a fabulous surprise like fever 333. even tho I had lunch at the office, I grabbed an italian sausage sandwich and a chicken taco from separate places, just to fuel up while the lines weren't long. aquabats were good, lots of showmanship. didn't like k flay yesterday at first, but by the end of the set, I kind of liked her mix of styles. finally met up again with boarders at sum 41, a band which I thought I would like, but didn't. dig planets were good yesterday; had seen them up close on the rail at lolla 2005, instead of seeing weezer who played at the same time. finally caught hellzapoppin sideshow after all these yrs, much of which grossed me out. they could have used the blonde more. the three kids in the audience who looked to be ten yrs old or so were so rapt w/ attention at the sideshow, it was like they were listening to the sermon on the mount. killed time looking at the vendors near the riot stage while bleachers (who I had seen at jbtv) were finishing their set. after young the giant had played the only song of theirs I know, cough syrup, about midway through their set, I left and headed back to the train; took close to an hour to get from the park via the pink and then the brown lines home. back in the office now, ready for day 2; hope to see everyone but audiobully this afternoon.

Day 1 was lots of fun. Only stuck around for th first 20 minutes of Weezer but I think they played about every Weezer song I know in that time.
On a separate, tin foil hat note, something seems fishy about their 2nd wave delay, etc. If it played out the way they claim, I'm impressed they were able to print their programs, every bit of merch, posters, etc. with the correct line-up in 2 weeks.

Sticking Incubus on the Rise stage is very dumb. I love Josh but there's no way he's going to outdraw them at Riot Fest. That stage could barely hold the TBS crowd last night.

I'm on the way now. Decided to live it up and take a (discounted) Lyft instead of public transportation today. I think I'm just gonna rotate between the two main stages all day. I'll be the guy wearing black, come say hi.

Today was fantastic! So many good back to back bands. Beck was phenomenal tonight. Very fun show! Also very cool that we met some of the members of Health afterwards.
Jesus Lizard was insane. I’m so happy that claypoolfan was there with me. It was nice to know that if I fell or whatever he wouldn’t let me die in a pit.

Stay away from the restaurant selling wraps. Oh no why do you say this am I going to die now? I think you'll be fine. I didn't get sick or anything, they were just very disorganized, and gave me something that was not what I ordered after I waited around for 10-15 minutes. The employees (other than the very friendly person taking orders and handling cash) were all very frustrated and fighting with each other. The food has never been great at Riot Fest though, no big deal.

If anyone was curious, Direct Hit! was the surprise headliner at Chop Shop last night. I had learned this Thursday night from the chop shop promoters who happened to be at the chrome industries show, but since I had just seen the band at chrome industries, and felt that they were ok, but not special enough to see so soon afterwards, I completely forgot that this info was leaked to me. hashtag shrug

yesterday did not get to the park until reignwolf, who were great, but heavy metal blues only goes so far w/ me. all of conflict followed by the end of adolescents was like seeing one continuous band, since they were so similar, even though they come from different continents. street dogs were better than the time that the better half and I saw dropkick m's at milw summerfest. the band members of the voidz are ok, but julian isn't a very good frontman or songwriter, but he is richer than probably anyone else who was in douglas park yesterday. jerry lee looked like he had lost a step once he finally got on stage, but picked it up at the end of the set. saw 15 minutes of jesus lizard in between the beginning and end of jerry lee, and something was just not right with the jesus lizard.
and I looked up david yow this morning on the net -- I'm actually older than him by a month and a half, but he shouldn't look like he's a decade older than me. mr. yow, please cut out the carbs, and get to the gym every other day.
