don't think I saw an outright terrible set of music the whole weekend. you apparently weren't at the sceamo metal set that Welsh band Bullet for My Valentine played. everyone in the crowd was wild for it, except me. they really sucked. I was at part of that set and I liked it.

Had a blast. I still miss the second entrance on California, which used to alleviate foot traffic at the end of the night. Plus, they could really use a few lights in the middle of the park; it gets super dark, and a friend of mine almost got knocked down by someone who didn't see her after Beck.
No other complaints, per usual. Riot Fest is my favorite every year, after all.
I could've been backstage to meet the Suicidal Tendencies after the performance because my buddy's cousin is friends with Muir, but I opted to just keep bouncing from stage to stage. My buddy got a picture with Muir, and said he was super cool. I talked with his cousin for a good while. He also knows Danzig, and, this is going to shock you, but, he says he's a total dick.
I did pretty well catching most of the sets I wanted to, but I missed out on Dillinger Four and the Jesus Lizard.
Beck might've stolen the weekend for me. I had never seen him before, so it was many years in the making.

i thought the fest did a great logistically, despite so many issues leading up to the day of the fest. security never seemed to be an issue and they had the voucher system figured out. m ore water stations would've been good considering the obscene heat (i take back what i said! it wasn't worth it) but it was nice that most of security at every stage was handing out water and spraying the front rows. didn't eat at all at the fest again. i think i stopped trying after the year of the ticketing system debacle and have always just loaded up before and after the fest and i dont feel like im missing out at all.
liz phair was incredibly good and i only knew 2 songs going on. aquabats were a fucking hoot. archie powell was basically just a series of snappy tweets directed at basically no one in particular but p funny. sum 41 was a shitshow -- sounded okay when they played the 2 songs that everyone knew but otherwise were late, bland, and rambly and didnt play any of their other hits. bombpops were cool. digable planets was chill. dos equis cabana for matt and kim and flogging molly and young the giant was perfect honestly. taking back sunday was actually my favorite that day cause i hadnt seen them do a full hour set in forever so lots of nostalgia to be had. first time seeing weezer and the first 75% of the set was old hits so i was tickled -- best possible way i could've seen them for nothing.
health started off so fucking killer and maybe the loudest set at the fest ever but i guess the sun fried their electronics after 5 songs and the rest of the was just accidental experimental noise but im not mad about that. gary numan was fucking stellar -- both old and new songs -- also those desert outfits were fucking dope. reignwolf sounded good but also dude has no recorded albums so idk what he was playing. wolfmother was probably okay but the sound guy apparently couldnt decide if stockdale's guitar or voice was more important and kept wildly shifting volume between songs so it sucked. twin peaks had a dumb big crowd but were v nice chill music while everyone fried. uhhh killing joke was fucking incredible despite that they always seem to be cancelling shows for health reasons -- dude sounded badass and the whole band was loud as fuck. first half of interpol was nice, not a lot of hits but sounded good. jesus lizard was impeccable and hysterical as always. i really really really liked that beck set -- even the new stuff was fun live and had people moving.
jd mcpherson was fine but perhaps a bit overhyped for how blase alt/indie rockabilly it sounded. fear was also very funny as all their songs are 58 seconds long but he would spend 3 minutes introducing them as some grandiose pieces of classical composition. avengers were lovely. ummm bullet for my valentine kinda ruled and i dont fucking know if im still in jr high or not. johnny marr sounded good but we missed the smiths stuff for a fucking buttmetal band whoops. clutch put one of my favorite sets of theirs in quite some time despite the new album being not great and also they had the smallest crowd of any set i went to all weekend which was weird. blondie's crowd was also obnoxious but fun and she sounded fine on any song that wasnt call me. i still dont care for alkaline trio but good on everyone who was going apeshit for that set. ugh incubus opened with 2 or 3 of my favorite songs and sounded fantastic but the crowd, as many predicted, was fucking miserably sardined together and had no interest in actually watching the band so i gave up. mr tillman was way more spectacular and with a way better crowd. i forgot bad religion was doing that one album but they did it very well for the bit we saw. good on RtJ for having that much of a crowd on a sunday night as a last minute addition to the lineup but i still stand by wha t i said after the aragon show and the last several fest sets i saw -- theyre way more interested in being hype men for their own backing tracks right now than they are at being vocalists and articulating their own lyrics -- it's fine i just dont love it anymore.
getting out all 3 nights didnt seem nearly as bad as previous years. we fucked up friday night and got an expensive lyft but the bus on saturday and long walk to an isolated uber spot on sunday were much better options.

I get that he's albums out from it now, but only 2 ILYHB songs is a crime. Ideal Husband should not be missing in lieu of Date Night or Real Love Baby.

Will say, the set did a lot to sell me on Please Don't Die and Hangout at the Gallows. Even Total Entertainment Forever, a bit.

Pretty sure I got sick at this fest, I feel like death. The cool weather lead to me pretty much only drinking lemonade and whisky all weekend long and not having any water... probably has something to do with it.

Friday and Saturday were pretty cool. Sunday was a little warm but still not "holy shit I need to drink water" weather. I wore jeans the first two days and didn't sweat at all.

Were we at the same fest? All three days were warm and Sunday was definitely "holy shit I need to drink water" weather.

Does everyone decide if they should drink water or not based solely on their temperature?? Also cpf I was sweating in shorts this is wild.

I had no idea Real Love Baby was such a hit for him.. every female in a 20 foot radius of me started pushing forward while singing every word.

But yeah... my plan was to do Incubus, FJM and then back to Incubus.. but being 10 foot away vs having to move back to a spot in the trees where you can't even see just to be able to breathe made it an easy choice to stay with Mr. Tillman .. though I was a bit sad to miss A Crow Left of the Murder.

Weird, the one song that doesn't paint love as a toxic mire that you might as well leap into because everything else is worse, and lets you just think about seducing Mr. Tillman away from his wife.

The crowd for Incubus was so, so light on the left side. this was the case for every set at that stage all weekend because everyone stops in the middle and blocks the path to get to the left side which is why that setup is dumb

Don't know where they could put it but where it is currently is about the worst possible location.
