Saw some other good stuff for sure but those are the ones that stick out to me. Knocked out a bunch of bands I thought I wouldn’t have gotten to see before this year (Bright Eyes, MCR, Pavement), and made it to a show with my dad again for the first time in several years (Brandi Carlile). I saw two of my favorite Dead adjacent shows that I’ve ever seen, some truly atrocious garbage (Gogol Bordello, Iceage) and I spent a hell of a lot of time with some combination of you people (5 festivals and a dozen venue shows from my list). It was a good year for music.

The two Turnpike Troubadours shows I went to were my two favorite days of music (with Steve Earle and Old 97s in Waite Park and with Willie, Zach Bryan, and Morgan Wade at the Smokeout)
Mike and the Moonpies, Pavement, Spiritualized, and WEEN were of course also exceptional. Lorde, Bad Bunny, and Rosalia were probably the best pop shows of the year.

*= I was trying to limit myself on Billy shows, but the top ones were 10/13/22 at Stubbs, 10/29 in Asheville, and 10/31 in Asheville and I think that'd be my top 3 of this list if I was breaking it out. Collectively the Halloween shows in general were definitely my favorite though hence the ranking
I only went to one festival, Innings Fest in Phoenix, so not really worth breaking that out. Billy, Foo Fighters, War on Drugs, and Jade Bird were all great at it. St Vincent was good but it just wasn't the same energy as that Pitchfork set last year despite being a near identical set. Tame Impala were boring. Matt and Kim I thought were pretty bad, and Petey was awful.

I saw basically nothing this year. Waxahatchee and Spirit of the Beehive were good. I got COVID at Mannequin Pussy. Kurt Vile was OK. Missed most of Sudan Archives while in line for a hot dog. Went to see Whitney last night and had a good time even though the new stuff isn't good.
