I PR’d todays puzzle too at 3:43. Would’ve been a bit quicker, too, save for a few unfortunate typos.

Got 5:18 today. Eat it doso! Is this my cue to post a lame excuse about how I would’ve done better if I didn’t have a hangnail or something?

50:18 today. A rare Saturday crossword completion that I’ll attribute to this thread. 36 minutes and change. I didn't get to Saturday's puzzle until yesterday. The upper left was problematic and took awhile to suss out for me. I hate when 1 across fucks me up and winds up being the last clue solved. I didn't interpret the clue in the way I needed to move forward and had to back into it to complete that zone.

i'm old fashioned and dont' like doing puzzles online.
for anyone who does them the old way, do you use pen/pencil and do you do all caps or lower-case? i used to do puzzles with my grandma, and much to her chagrin, i use pen and do lower-case.

All caps and pencil. I can’t even fathom pen. How do you make that work? Do you only make an entry when you’re absolutely sure of the answer? What do you do when you make a mistake - scratch it out and write the correct letter in the corner? If nothing else, that would destroy the aesthetic for me.

All caps and pencil. When I was little my grandma told me to not trust anyone who used a pen because they’re “too sure about their actions”

All analog for me. In pen, mostly upper case, but not intentionally so. Also, I note that, while this thread is about NYT puzzles, I do the puzzles in the Chicago Sun Times, which is (I think) a week behind (but definitely gets the feed from the NYT and aligns the days correctly)? So, my comments and times do not align with those of you doing the NYT puzzle on-line, y'all are at least a week ahead of me.

Also knock out the Sudoku, both KenKen's and the diagramless crossword on a daily basis in the CST. I don't bother with the second crossword, it's like Monday every day.

The only one I do without occasional assistance is the NYT Magazine on Sundays and I've managed to complete it twice. I only use black pen, too. Something more aesthetically pleasing about it.

Abandon the puzzle? FWIW when this happens, I'll leave it sit for a day and come back to it. If I'm still stuck, I might look up an answer for that "D'oh" moment, but I won't finish the puzzle after that.

c19 and I share crossword principles. I'd rather "abandon" than finish with "help"

I've been stymied by multiple intersecting names of actors or athletes too many times to feel bad about getting help.

I thought the Friday and Saturday puzzles were quite difficult. I guess Friday’s was constructed by some crossword old-timer; that’s probably what threw me off.

Yeah Friday was the toughest time I've had with a NYT puzzle in, like, at least over a year. Closest I've come during my current streak to just giving up.

New Tuesday PR with yesterday’s puzzle (6:56). Helped that I correctly guessed all the movies except one off the top of my head.

Today’s was a fun Thursday. And I’ll echo the sentiments about last Friday and Saturday, very tricky. I was trying to do them between sets at Big Ears when not trying to chase down food and had little luck.

Agreed, I liked the theme for Thursday but 23 Across about the ancient city was a showstopper for me.

Goddammit...Turns out the CST carries the NYT crossword with a two week delay. I thought I aced the puzzles you all talked about from last weekend (3/31-4/1), but it turns out I'm still a week behind and I'll see those puzzles next week. My responses here mean nothing...
I'm still on the lookout for puzzles listed here as challenging.
