yeah watching Empire and TLJ so closely together made me really really love Rian's interpretation of Yoda. goofy puppetry and all.

I just don't want to hate it. I want it to at least be better than the prequels. i cant imagine this won't be fun as hell Exactly. Every new Star Wars is an extremely fun live moviegoing experience so my expectations are honestly pretty high. I love this cast and I really enjoyed episodes 7 and 8

Sold my ticket for tonight. Buying one for Christmas Eve. My sleep has been terrible this week and there is no way I wouldn't have been snoring by the halfway point.

Absolutely terrible. Felt like a high budget fanfic. The story was sooooo fucking bad.

Hahaha god damn... I already had super low expectations. But if it's better than AotC, I'll take it. Seeing it at 10:30.

Thoughts Like Irv said the scroll was a pretty clear omen, when the first sentence is THE DEAD CAN SPEAK. Like god damn I guess we're just going to accept Palpatine is back now out of all times for no reason. And apparently he like created Snoke in a test tube?
The whole movie felt like a deus ex machina of the series. These mystical sith devices, sith planets!!! Palpatine is back just because! Oh and he's basically a god now! And he has this huge army! and the Knights of Ren are inexplicably back and in like every scene! It's almost like this movie could work as a stand alone, very little of the past two had any real influence outside of the relationships characters have with one another.
And yeah, it might be dumb to nitpick a movie about space and mind tricks and lightsabers for shit like this, but it was a bit much.
I'd enjoy it more if the action scenes were good, but they really weren't. It never felt like anything was ever at stake. No tension. The only part I actually enjoyed was Chewie's death caused accidentally by Rey. Could she actually have a dark side? But it never feels like its ever fully explored and it turns out Chewie is alive, so it doesn't matter.
Also not entirely sure why when they have like 6 hours left before Palpatine kills pretty much everything they decide that saving Chewie is more important.
Rey's mystical healing powers were pretty fucking dumb as well. But that's not a big complaint. Whatever, it's the force, and they've been pretty flexible with it throughout the series so I guess I can buy it. Just like Leia floating into the ship in TLJ.
Rey being a Palpatine literally had no role at all. With Luke being Vader's son at least it made it more believable that he'd be able to persuade Vader and connect with him. But this had no purpose except for us to think oh wait maybe she is evil. But like I said I never got the impression throughout this whole movie that was a real possibility, except for the 30 seconds with Chewie.
And then the final confrontation with Palpatine was so fucking weird. He wants her to kill him, and says if she does he will just essentially posses her. Then she does and nothing happens? He's died before, how is this any different?
Love how TLJ they call for hope and no one comes but suddenly the whole fucking galaxy shows up now. I guess maybe it's because of Palpatine's message and people realize it's truly now or never?
and finally, why does she call herself a Skywalker at the end?
As I said, regardless of plot there still weren't any scenes that truly felt gripping. No action scenes where it felt like it was all on the line or had me at the edge of my seat. Pretty shit.

There’s a lot of stuff in this that I liked and there’s also a lot of stuff that it seemed like someone on reddit wrote that I hated. So all in all it was a star war. More thoughts later probably but I had fun watching these even if it was the worst of the new trilogy.

It never felt like anything was ever at stake. Exactly what I was thinking during one of the light saber duels.

My thoughts are just all over the place about this. There were scenes where it felt like someone had their hand on a dial and was spinning it back and forth between good stuff and bad stuff.

There were definitely a couple of times where I laughed out loud and then wondered if that response was intended by the filmmakers.

This is where I’m at, but at the same time I agree with most of neader’s points. There really wasn’t a major emotional point for me like episode 4 or 6, especially with the big battle. The big plot point reveal wasn’t like HOLY SHIT, it was just, “well, alright then.” I’m not anti-Abrams like a lot of people are, but I do think I ended up liking episode 8 the most of the last trilogy.

Is there a way I could get a Valerian sequel instead of having to watch this

Imagine owning a billion dollar piece of IP and making a shitty movie out of it to appease a bunch of incels. What a failure of capitalism. Bring back the guillotine.

It felt to me at times that the movie was just too aware of itself and its importance to people and just tried too hard to please everyone.

I will forgive Disney if they end up making a Doctor Aphra movie/series. I'm so disappointed, I feel stupid for arguing TLJ two years ago.

Nothing like negative hype and low expectations enabling me to enjoy a freakin sequel. A life long love for SW helps, too. I actually liked it quite a bit and overall pretty happy with Rey's story. shrug.gif

I liked it quite a bit. Some minor quibbles with how it fit with Episode 8, but they stuck the landing IMO

I have only read the original (iirc) 10 issue Marvel series, which came out very long ago.

I will say, 3PO absolutely killed it in this one. Probably my favorite character.

That wasn't bad but it also wasn't good. None of these new movies really need to exist. The end of Return of the Jedi wrapped things up much nicer.

Can't believe no one has mentioned JJ Abrams' greatest crime yet: Casting Keri Russell only to hide her behind a mask the whole time.
