I'd see a zombie donna summer in concert, before I'd watch a star wars movie not directed by george lucas.

That’s a really bizarre take. He only directed the prequels and A New Hope

early reaction is extremely positive so far.
I'm going Thursday night. I got invited to a late showing, like at 1115, which kind of sucks because I wanted to go at 7. I'm just going to disconnect from the internet once I get off work that day.
I went to one of the first showings last year and still somehow accidentally read a spoiler beforehand

That’s a really bizarre take. He only directed the prequels and A New Hope and he pretty much had to have Spielberg hold his hand on IV

In Lucas' defense 'the direction' is far from the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the series' problems.

I will always stand by Revenge of the Sith as being a great movie but Attack of the Clones is fucking dog shit and the Phantom Menace would be fucking dog shit if it wasn't for the last fight between Maul, Obi-Wan, and Qui Jon.

phantom menace is mildly entertaining but not a good movie at all.
attack of the clones is just bad.
revenge of the sith is like a 6.5/10 movie though it has some good moments

Revenge of the Sith wasn't terrible, but it had the dumbest and most awful scene in the entire series

i just binged on all 8 last week for the first time in forever.
1 is completely hot trash. fun nostalgia and the 3 jedi battle is dope but everything else is so poorly acted and written. 2 actually is better than i recalled but there's 45 minutes of awful romance that needs to be removed from history. geonosis battle is still great. 3 is funnier but still cringey at first. gets better as it gets darker.
4 and 5 are still perfect. 6 could've used some shorters bits but still really fun.
rogue one was fine this time cause i went in not bothering trying to understand the set up.
7 was even better than i remembered. the throwbacks to 4-6 actually make more linear sense when you watch em back to back and it's not just a mindless fan service thingy.
also jar jar is totally snoke, avb. keep up.

I should probably re-watch 4, 5 and 6! Haven't seen them since I was a kid. I remember liking Empire Strikes Back and kind of hating Return of the Jedi. I was not a Star Wars kid, clearly.

I have a 2.75 hour cut of the prequels edited down into something reasonable, cohesive, and notably less awful that makes me forget that they’re not good movies. It actually opens with the fight from Phantom Menace and that’s all it actually has from that one.

I'm just going to disconnect from the internet once I get off work that day. I went to one of the first showings last year and still somehow accidentally read a spoiler beforehand Review embargo apparently is lifted this aft, so lots of eyes will be on Rotten Tomatoes. One forum I very, very quickly skimmed said the amount of humour in this one is cringe-worthy but... there's a very high likelihood of me seeing this opening day regardless. To your point, I also need to stay away from discussions like this as I've successfully avoided trailers/TV-spots so far.

4 5
6 7
1 2 3 Rogue One
In retrospect I've given the prequels bonus points for creativity. Lucas is a huge dork and a lot of his choices are extremely questionable but his imagination and ideas are generally interesting. TFA is constructed better, with better writing and acting but JJ Abrams' entire schtick is to remix previous ideas and so while I don't find the New Hope throwbacks 'bad' they're just very boring.
