New music is cool and all, but what old artists/albums did you fall in love with this year? Mine, in no particular order:
Eels Marvin Gaye- What's Goin On Blink-182 Chromatics The Bach Boys- Surf's Up Weezer- Blue Album No Age (again!)

Ride's discography. I had been unfamiliar previously. Nowhere is one of the first purchases I ever made on vinyl. Going Blank Again is also wonderful

Oh lets see here....
CAN (enough to where my favorite album by them went from Ege Bamyasi to Monster Movie now) The Zombies (pre-HOF nomination) Bobbie Womack (finally crossed 110th Street to his other material) Chris Knox (had "Not Given Lightly" on repeat for like a week) Bauhaus Gil-Scot Heron (don't remember what TV show it was that featured "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" but it got stuck in my head for days so I explored his catalog more) R.E.M. (was familiar with them, and really enjoyed Fables, but not much else. That changed this year) Women (again) YYYs Iceage (again) These New Puritans Fiona Apple (again) The Microphones (again)

Ride's discography. I had been unfamiliar previously. Nowhere is one of the first purchases I ever made on vinyl. Going Blank Again is also wonderful I love both of those, and those are definitely two of the biggest and best shoegaze albums ever.... but I really like Smile a lot. Finally getting both Drive Blind and Chelsea Girl in Denver was most excellent.

Demdike Stare. It was the Testpressing series they did that really sold me.

I did listen to a lot of Grateful Dead this year, but it was admittedly mostly throwing on live albums at random.

Here's a few more that I started getting into recently
Eric's Trip Elliot Smith (until this year, I'd never listened to him outside of Heatmiser's "Mic City Sons" album) Grouper Talib Kweli The Sound (short-lived post punk band) RATKING (thanks to the Wiki album) Grimes (had never fully listened to either album, only heard a few songs) Fever Ray's self titled album Burial's "Untrue" Luna

I love this band. edit for content: I listened to a lot of Psychic TV this year. Also discovered Death (the Florida metal band, not the Detroit punk band).

Brian Eno's "Another Green World" as well. Admittedly a Pitchfork review tipped me off, but still

That's pretty much the only way to get into the Grateful Dead, I think You could have parents that listen to them twice as much as any other act and so you listen to all the studio albums and it gets ingrained in you from age 4 I mean, that's how I did it

I have been listening to the 1st Wave station on XM a lot lately and they tend to play a lot of deeper cuts from 80s bands like The B-52s, Talk Talk and some other pop bands I never really got into other than just hearing their big singles all the time. Good stuff.

I've been listening to more jazz at home and have spent the most time with Sarah Vaughn and Dexter Gordon.
