Thanks Tim! And not a bad list everybody!
Pretty weird that AF is that high, and I wish some of the metal was in the top half, but other than that it's a good list.

Thanks, timbo! Fun list even if there are some head scratchers. It is too bad that a lot of times something that everyone enjoyed but most would not say is their favorite ends up in the top echelon. I'm looking at you The National and of course, Spoon. I know, I am part of the problem, but still....
edit - Yay Vince!

I enjoyed reviewing the results, and I appreciate Timbo's work. I am left wondering what it says about me that neither my #1 nor my #2 album appears in the final ranking at all. Talk about being on an island (lack of) taste-wise.

11-20 is a pretty great stretch of records.
Who is the third artist accused of violence against women? Homme, CAS, and ?

tima, given your stat about the national having the 2nd smallest aoty total, are the old board rankings saved on the board somewhere? Or would you want to insert them into the first post as a spoiler for reference? also, presumably a large reason for it having a low vote total would be less people participating, yes? terrible that hurry up i'm dreaming was a board aoty. Definitely fewer lists bc of the transition between boards, but I think more than 2011 (based on the totals).

im surprised the first charli xcx mixtape from this year didn't make it. i would have figured it showed up on more lists than pop 2.

(don't @ me if you think actually one is blah blah blah). doesn't mean there's really a problem with them being top records of the year. harvest moon isn't my personal favorite neil young album but it's prob one of the best albums of the early 90s anyway.

I don't care whether the album is the best of the band's/artist's discography. That shouldn't matter for the best of the year list. I am just saying that collaborative best of lists tend to elevate a few albums that are on lots of lists but aren't necessarily anyone's top choice. Didn't realize until I checked that The National was #1 on one list. I thought we had an overall #1 that wasn't #1 on anyone's list.

I imagine some folks had Everything Now as the last on their list, but that could still put it in the top 20.

@tima, at some point, would you mind posting the full list minus pictures in the archive thread? I'd really appreciate it.

Great job again Tim, thanks for doing this. AF making it so high is pretty great. And kudos team for keeping King Krule out of the top 10

I think it'd be kind of interesting to have people develop new lists based only on what albums are included in this top 50. Not going to happen, but I'd imagine we'd have some new top 10 entrants.

My only minor gripe with this year's list (outside of the small amount of lists submitted) is that it's not very diverse. The top 10 is mostly repeat offenders with a new noobs like Priests (EP from 2014 didn't crack top 50 that year), Lorde (Pure Heroine didn't even chart), and Julien Baker (Sprained Ankle didn't chart either).
It's not surprising, I just wish one of these years we'd be a little bit more diverse than Rolling Stone. With so many board darlings releasing material this year, I hope we end up with some fresh stuff next year. Tho if Stereogum is to be believed, we're getting new Kanye next year which will be our AOTY most likely.

def thought the ooz and capacity would crack the top 10 because I didn't look at most lists too deeply but saw that they had topped a few

nice job tim even though you did the ties wrong How so? if two albums tied for the most points, most people would say they tied for 1st place. but your way they would have tied for 2nd and there would be no 1st place.

was watching you update them last night tim and i was honestly shocked the nat'l usurped kdot for #1. thought he had it locked down. surprised how big the point difference was too. yay for vince at #3 tho. i put that on again last week and it still bangs so fucking hard.
huge thanks to putting this together, tim. and to everyone for participating!
more hottakes when im back in the city.

So it’s not like The Board is some huge outlier here. www.albumoftheyear.org/list/summary/2017/
