I've listened to Daydream Nation and like both Sonic Youth and Alanis. Shrug

but...what's your point here? The point is how different (and lame) the festival has become. The same festival that booked Sonic Youth to play Daydream Nation now has Alanis Morissette, someone who many of us were rolling our eyes at in the 90s. And no, you would not have to work hard to find people who listened to "alt rock" and hip hop and rap in the 90s. Look at the Lollapalooza billings. Hell, a lot of A Tribe Called Quest's audience was also part of Beastie Boys' audience--they toured together a bunch of times. Maybe the people who book the fest got old and lame and now remember Alanis fondly

The Alanis thing is fine I was surprised they hadn't done it when I googled it but probably no way they wouldn't hit Jagged Little Pill with a 9+ on the Sunday Review.
Black Pumas genuinely inexplicable. Someone probably explained to some marketing exec at GQ/Conde Nast that it's a fest for "acclaimed" artists and he thought they should book this "cool new band he saw on the Grammys"
They also just played here three times so idek who this is for.

Yeah and they didn't even book any other XRT type bands on the Black Pumas day. Makes me wonder if a headliner dropped out like last year and we ended up with Bon Iver headlining a day that had mostly hip hop and R&B subs.

Alanis influenced a generation of female artists and most music publications have changed their views on Jagged Little Pill and the bullshit notion that she was an industry plant. It's a better booking than some of the boring headliners they brought out the last few years.

That's the wrong kind of Kenergy.

I brought up Beastie Boys because of the kind of crossover they represent. I don't think you can really say they're just rap--and their audience most definitely was not just into rap. If anybody wanted to find someone who was into rap and alt rock in the 90s, all they had to do was go to a Beastie Boys show.

I grudgingly agree with Bosmas incendiary take that fests should book good bands in lieu of bad ones.

Really, though, is it "white people" or is it "white boys"? pardon? Is it a lie to say that the Beastie Boys' fandom consists mainly of white boys? I mean, I know plenty of white girls like Beastie Boys just like I also know straight women who have seen Ani DiFranco in concert multiple times.
