Yeah there was no twitter or insta and phones wouldn't have enough memory to save videos, so you'd just huddle next to dirty people and savor every moment of Bloc Party.
It was a barbaric time.

It was a barbaric time. at intonation 2005, when tim harrington rolled a slip'n'slide through the crowd my friend took video. and then afterward he asked me if i knew anywhere online that he could easily post it. geez, we didn't even have youtube then.

i know everything is saturated now causing rising prices but what I miss about the Roo 2014 line-up is how insane the subs are. Arctic Monkeys are 9th on that line-up and even in 2014 were easily a 4-6 headliner at Lolla and ACL. In fact they were number 4 on the Lolla line-up that year. Frank Ocean at 10th was nearly big enough to be a 4-6 headliner. Neutral Milk Hotel was in the 15th spot and they were big enough to headline smaller fests like P4K and Fun Fun Fun Fest. The mid-card was just insane.
Like if I broke that line-up up into 5 tiers of popularity, you'd have tier 1 which is basically the headliners on line 1, tier 2 is the next 3 lines the avett bros to superjam line so basically subs, tier 3 is like disclosure line to slightly stoopid, tier 4 grouplove to little dragon, tier 5 the bottom half of the poster which is like the whole of the undercard. If I put 2018 on a similar tier system, I think Anderson.Paak in 2018 whose in tier 2 status on the 2018 lineup is comparable to Chance the Rapper's popularity in 2014 who was a tier 4 act on that line-up.
that was maybe a really really convoluted way to make my point

my third festival - 1994. i went to the dallas show, but the lineup was the same. smashing pumpkins also played a 2nd stage surprise show earlier in the evening before their headlining slot.

Yeah, that was the worst one I've seen them do of the 10 or so shows I've seen

y'all get back to me when their sound cuts out for half the set
but it was a nice set to watch from the fountain during the fireworks. looked way too packed on the actual south field. i saw them do StL a few months before and it was way better and i wanted to get rail for raconteurs, so.

i remember that being really really crowded as i stayed for all of the racs set. a lot of people left that set early to get to the south field so by the racs' encore i was probably 15-20 feet from the rail.
i was bummed by the radiohead set b/c we were so far back by the time we got there. but the fireworks were cool and i was all about in rainbows that year.
i did enjoy the 2016 set more but i had to leave during bodysnachers b/c i had to pee really bad.

the fireworks were part of a bears event at soldier field, i think.
i don't particularly care for radiohead, but thought that set was ok. i do recall that "everything in its right place" scrawled the lyrics behind the band and spelled its as it's.

it's such a Billy McFarland move to throw G.O.O.D. Music at the top and make people think it'll be Kanye and Pusha when in reality they probably just maybe booked Desiigner and Francis and the Lights

The more I read the stories on the lawsuits for this, the more impatient I get for someone to make a movie about this festival

A Ryan Murphy led "American Crime Story" season would be perfect for it

The more I read the stories on the lawsuits for this, the more impatient I get for someone to make a movie about this festival Right after it happened I was really interested in writing a script for fun (I've been trying to think of another good idea for a while) but I figured a lot of others had the same idea and I didn't bother. But I haven't heard anything I was pretty split on whether a pretty straight played retelling of what actually happened would be best, like focusing on the creator guy and how it ended up happening, or I thought a very fictionalized version that's a horror movie that follows the attendees rather than getting into how the fest came about could be fun. Or honestly better yet half horror/half dark comedy, though that's a harder tone to nail. I think either would be a fun movie
