There's no band I have double digits for shows seen. Pearl Jam and Godspeed You! Black Emperor are tied with 8. The Mountain Goats will make it a three-way tie next month. irt venom I have Billy Strings and iceage both with 9. Billy will hit 10 next year for sure. Had a cancelled iceage show last year that would have made 10 for them most bands only come back here every 3-5 years if at all which I figure is your same problem

STL and KC aren't exactly first tier major markets. You're still in Houston, right? I would think that would be a huge market, it's what, the 3rd largest city in the US?

Houston is the 4th largest behind NYC, LA, and Chicago, and yet it's also a really bad music market. Consistently bands, specially indie bands, sell less here than other places and a lot of them just straight up skip it in favor of doing Austin/Dallas only. Always been pretty annoying, though things have gotten better since the biggest promoter here opened a nice venue with 3 different sized rooms back in 2016. And finally got a venue in the 6-7k capacity range inside the city that opened two years ago, so now can cover nearly every band size. Never really been 100% sure why, my theory has always been that we don't have any radio stations that play that kind of music but it's also hard to see FM radio having that sort of impact in 2023 I feel like? So honestly music wise I wouldn't call us first tier either and its probably more akin to STL and KC. Austin and Dallas are more first tier despite being smaller (though the larger Dallas metro area is huge, and I think they draw bigger regionally from OK, LA, and AR too)

Yo La Tengo is about to push them out tho. If I see all 4 Hanukkah shows I have tickets to, they’ll be at 13.

I was saying at the Wilco show last month that I have seen them at least once a year every year since 1996
Bob Mould and Yo La Tengo are probably closest in terms of times I have seen them, the National has to be getting up there now too

There was probably a time when I could've said the same (re Wilco, since 1997) but it's been a few years since I've bothered to see them. I think the last time might have been that lunchtime set we saw at the Chicago Athletic Association - 2019ish?

Cheap Trick is the band I’ve seen the most. Definitely more than 20 at this point.

The only band I have in the TK double digits is Local H, but I feel like that's kind of cheating given that you can see them in the Chicagoland area for free multiple times per year.
Next highest would be NIN at 9.

joe ely 16 or 17 times, albertina walker 10 times, because the city used to bring her out to every chicago gospel festival. probably close to ten for special consensus bluegrass band, but I haven't kept track. mellencamp 7 farmaids plus daley plaza; willie and neil 7 farmaids each, bill monroe 7 times, close to that for arlo guthrie and asleep at the wheel, and maybe slightly more for the waco bros. only 1 phish show, when they opened for santana.

I don't keep track but my best guess would be Pearl Jam, Kanye West, Queens of the Stone Age, Father John Misty, My Morning Jacket, and Wilco might all be north of ten times. Ween I think is at nine.

I believe that's a couple of cop cars in front of the building but hell if I know why they're there Edit- news outlets reporting some dude shot a flare gun off in there as a search warrant was being executed

I lived in an apartment in Oak Park for about 10 years. A month to the day after I moved out, the entire building burned to the ground. Building owner’s son’s meth lab.

i found out last night that double decker records in allentown, pa closed last week. it was easily the best record shop i had within an hour of where i grew up. i haven't lived in the area since 2004 and still more of my record collection's from there than any other shop. they catered to a lot of punk and hardcore, but i found everything there.
i'm looking through the list of records i purchased there over the years - stone-cold classics (The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Velvet Underground & Nico, Exile on Main St., etc.) to the sought-after (a slew of late 70s punk bands' Peel Sessions, unrest's Perfect Teeth 7" box set, etc.) to personal favorites (all the white wires lps, The Slider, a bundle of 12-inches that were staples when i dj'd). what a place.
