Touring child care facilities is bizarre and kind of stressful. The one we went through today was pretty much a Portlandia episode. havent even had the kid yet and you're already looking to get rid of it.

There's apparently some people who apply two full years in advance of having a kid, so we're relatively sane!

Touring child care facilities is bizarre and kind of stressful. The one we went through today was pretty much a Portlandia episode. Congrats. One thing we never thought to ask about (assuming your kid will be there more than a year) was their plan to move kids from one classroom to another as they age. Our daughter got stuck in her class because they didn't have space to move her into a class with older kids. Doesn't sound like a big deal but a 3 year old (and 3.5 by the time we left) has very different needs than a 2 year old. We were actually forced to switch schools (which has turned out to be a good thing) but it was pretty stressful. Thankfully they've been pretty upfront about this process at each spot we've toured. There was one spot that basically has the same approach as the one you described, so we're not really considering them at this point. The wait lists are nuts at some of these places. Ugh.

Congrats though scoots, glad to hear the news.
We looked at 3 places way back when, ended up going with one that was basically next door to my wife's office, so that worked out well for us. Thankfully it was a good school too.

Heh
We're already guessing how long it will take SP to train our kid to play fetch.

Congratulations Scoots - I gather Mrs. Scoots' "I quit drinking alcohol for Lent" was a convenient deflection back in April?

(was a pic of a pretty funny email from a former boarder who hasn't been around for years, but mookie is right, may have been a lapse in judgement even though we're just amongst friends)

I'm not too concerned, but putting former boarder's name/info out there might not be the best move...

Found out that a friend of mine has pretty much been living in squalor for the past year or so. He's a good guy and he has a job and money, so it's alarming to learn he is in an apartment without furniture surrounded by trash.

Have you been to his home? The one time we visited it was shocking to see.

Have you been to his home? The one time we visited it was shocking to see. Nope, he hasn't let anyone into his place. We've dropped off Christmas gifts and friends have dropped off other things at his place, but he comes down and greets us at the main door and won't let us past. He had been talking for a couple weeks now about someone coming to stay with him, and this person apparently couldn't make it through a day without calling a mutual friend. She told me last night how she walked in and saw a bed surrounded by beer bottles/cans and trash. The chili that he cooked for a party last November was still on his counter. I don't even know how/if I can bring this up with him.

Do you have a relationship with his family such that you could ask them if they are aware what's going on?
