Crazy to me that he had been talking up this friend of his visiting and apparently only moved enough trash so he could put down an air mattress. When she left to stay at another friend's place, he made some remark that he couldn't be expected to be neat because he's a bachelor. She even tried to clean his place a little bit while he had been away at work - so what my friend saw was after her efforts to clean at least a little of the mess.

Do you have a relationship with his family such that you could ask them if they are aware what's going on? I'm not close with them. They're back in Kentucky. I do know some people in Denver that are much closer with his family - that might be a good approach.

Yeah, other than that, I think all you can do is (gently) let him know that you're aware, ask him if he wants to make a change and if he does, then offer some specific assistance. For example if you're willing to go over there with some trash bags and help clean up and/or set him up with some resources for people who are hoarding/living with their trash. The key, of course, is he won't change unless he wants to. Getting some behavioral health assistance is another key - should be easy, especially if he's working for a company that offers an EAP.

I don't know how far along that sliding scale I was. But I remember that when (yet to be) MrsFZ first came over for a visit, my friends were concerned about what she'd make of my place. I took the hints and spent a few days doing a little light tidying. Talking about older times later on down the line, MrsFZ told me that she was surprised that I hadn't bothered to tidy up for her before she visited. I don't say this to make light of your friend's situation, Scoots.

We had a mutual friend in town last weekend and he and I stopped at her place after the beach Sunday to find her and her bf casually eating out of the same enormous bowl of broccoli cheddar soup. That's weird on a few levels, right?

This is true but maybe not my first choice on a 95 degree day. They seem happy but she has gained a bunch of weight because their relationship is just him coming over to watch tv and eating and drinking. Apparently he orders up a bunch of stuff on demand and doesn't chip in on the cable bill

A blimp crashed near the U.S. Open. It landed in a field and there seem to be no major injuries.

Renaming it Hole foods, only selling food with holes.
Using Amazon drones to give samples outside of Trader Joe'ses

whole foods has been struggling as well since now everyone is doing organic/healthy foods for way cheaper than shopping at whole foods.

I would never do full grocery shopping trips to Whole Foods, but a lot of their stuff is legitimately awesome. I'm not super close to one so I could definitely see myself buying a few items on Amazon fairly frequently.
