Yeah CTA's Ventra system is underrated compared to MTA's ticket system

After exclusively driving shitty cars that cost ~$1000, I bought a real ass car today. It's a toyota rav4 that is supposed to last forever and I don't ever have to think about buying a car again. I am very happy

I am very happy i bought a rav4 in '97 and drove it for 18 years / 175k miles. fantastic value, it just had some issues at the end that would've cost more to fix than it was worth, so i traded it in for a nissan juke while it still had some value.

Blink 182 is postponing all their shows due to Travis having blood clots in his arms, making him unable to play.

eh i live 2 blocks away and i havent gone back on a saturday in probably 2 years now. we tried several times after initially moving here but even in the dead of winter, it was a 3-4 hour wait on saturdays after 5 pm and the live karaoke thing was really just a sardine-packed shitshow that made it impossible to get a drink and the backing band was getting worse and worse every time we went.
maybe it turned around since then but idk im kinda happy that i might be able to get back in on a saturday now.

Oh man, that sucks.
On a completely unrelated note, does anyone have recommendations for t-shirt printing companies? Would be ordering 250-300 and am fine just using Underground Printing or Vista Print or something, but didn't know if there's a crowd favorite or if anyone's had good experiences.

They are horrendously bad at quoting wait times at Piece. Seems like I only go there on Saturdays and with a group of 6 - 8 people. The quote is always 1.5 - 2.5 hours. We say fine. Grab some drinks. Actual wait time has been 20 minutes to 3 hours. Most of the time we wait about 30 - 40 minutes. We always wonder how many customers they scare away with those quotes.

Yeah - I hear you. We didn't always stay for karaoke, but when we did - look out!
The area around the bar is almost unbearable when it is busy.

I went there on St Patrick's Day a couple years back with a group of 5 and was somehow seated in 20 minutes. Every other time I've been there has been nuts, though. I always wondered how they managed the live band karaoke - demand must have been nuts.

XXXTentacion has broken the global record for the most Spotify streams in a single day, Billboard reports. On June 19—the day after he was shot and killed in South Florida—his track “SAD!” amassed 10.4 million streams globally, according to SpotifyCharts.com. The song topped Taylor Swift’s single-day record for Spotify global streams, which was 10.1 million for “Look What You Made Me Do” on August 25, 2017.

I follow a family friend's son on Instagram, who's usually just posting football pictures or screenshots of cars, but yesterday he posted a picture of XXXtention and said "a true hero and role model" - kids are so stupid

I guess he talked a lot about mental health and things like that? No wonder kids gravitated towards him.
My favorites are still the old folks commenting on every facebook articles with "Who?"

it's crazy how much the moral gray area of "artist vs art" has come up lately** but yeah there was a lot of gross shit i saw on twitter that was basically trying to say that there was either no proof of the dude beating his gf and choking out a dude -- or if there was, those victims had already forgiven him -- or if they hadn't, he had done enough charity work and said enough nice thing to be forgiven for it.
**the topic on MetalSucks' podcast this week was all about how the media should be covering (or not covering) the dude who tried to kill his wife and then come back to a shitty metalcore band to start touring again

Chicago, which has committed to power its 900 municipal buildings with 100 percent renewable electricity by 2025, has joined a seven-city collaboration to request price estimates for renewable electricity. The collaboration, led by Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, also includes Los Angeles, Houston, Portland, OR, Orlando, FL, and Evanston, IL.
The cities expect to issue a single request for information (RFI) to renewable developers later this summer. Mayor Walsh, who co-chairs the Climate Mayors network of more than 400 cities, has invited other cities to join in the RFI by submitting their “energy demand data.” Boston “continues to have ongoing conversations with cities that are highly interested in joining the initiative,” said Lauren Zingarelli of the mayor’s press office.
Most city-owned buildings are schools, and both Chicago and Boston will include schools’ use of electricity in the RFI. Boston’s mayor did not commit to meeting any given percentage of city government’s electricity demand with renewables, and did not ask other cities to make such a commitment.

Outmigration of Illinois high school students a concern29 percent of Illinois high school seniors left the state to go to college in 2002. Now that figure is just more than 46 percent.
“Fortunately for Illinois, two-thirds of those kids who get degrees out of the state come back. But among Illinois residents who earn degrees in the state, 92 percent of them remain in the state after graduation”

The Recording Academy has announced plans to expand the number of Grammy nominees in four major categories—Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist—as Billboard reports. Beginning with the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019, there will be eight nominees in each category, increased from five. In a statement, Recording Academy president/CEO Neil Portnow (who recently announced plans to step down from his position) commented, “This creates more opportunities for a wider-range of recognition in these important categories and gives more flexibility to our voters when having to make the often challenging decisions about representing excellence and the best in music for the year.”

Gave a client a call today to set up a meeting with them, get their voicemail, opened my mouth to start leaving a message, instead of words a burp comes out, startling the hell out of me. Thankfully it started before the beep but I’m fairly certain that the message opens with “-brrrap Hi (client) this is..”
Is the day over yet?

Azealia Banks has launched a GoFundMe to sue Russell Crowe, who she claims spat on her in 2016 (as Stereogum notes). “Whatever money comes of this will be donated to ocean clean up charities,” the GoFundMe description reads. “This isn’t about a big pay day for me, it’s about letting the world know that black women are victims to the same sort of disgusting violence men in Hollywood deal out to women and it’s important to send a message that black women also deserve justice and will get justice in these situations.” The GoFundMe has a goal of $100,000. Pitchfork has contacted Azealia Banks’ representatives for comment and more information.
Azealia Banks filed a battery report against Russell Crowe in October 2016, claiming that he restrained her, choked her, spat on her, called her a racial epithet, and forcibly removed her from a party in his hotel suite in Beverly Hills. RZA, who invited Banks to the party, said she verbally abused other guests and “threaten[ed] to cut a girl in the face with a glass.” In response, Banks said RZA was “gaslight[ing] [her].” Then, during an “Access Hollywood” interview, Banks reiterated that Crowe spat on her. “Like, who fucking wants to tell someone they got spat on? That’s humiliating. I’m just really, really humiliated,” she said.
Banks’ battery case was dropped in December 2016. The Los Angeles County District Attorney reportedly said that Crowe’s behavior was “justified to prevent the imminent violence threatened by Banks,” and that his alleged spitting, in particular, was “incidental to preventing more serious threatened violence.”
