It's gotta be Dylan for me based on songwriting skills alone. Some of the best writing I've ever heard in any genre of music of any kind has been something Bob Dylan has written. I've felt such a range of emotion from his work, and he somehow created timeless verses that manage to be relevant to every generation. The documentary Don't Look Back is pretty interesting, as it follows him on one of his European tours. In one segment of the doc, he's sitting at a typewriter backstage writing up some lyrics, and Joan Baez is playing guitar and singing in the background, just casually at a couch. As she sings and he types, he gradually starts typing to the same rhythm as her playing. It's pretty neat and just shows how deeply ingrained music is in him, like it's written into his DNA.
That being said, Springsteen is pretty great as well, though I have yet to dig as deep into his work as I have Dylan's. His love for performing and what he does is pretty hard to ignore, and it's wild that he apparently still puts on like 3 hour shows. He's also consistently good live in 2018, which is a lot more than Dylan can say at this point.

I listened to Nebraska for the first time in a while yesterday and cried. However, without Dylan I probably wouldn't have finished high school. So, yeah.

Dylan was obviously a huge influence, and I enjoyed a show I saw of his in the past. But I would always choose Springsteen, given the choice between the two. Seeing him do Born To Run is one of my all time favorite concert memories.

I voted Springsteen because of personal preference, not because I think he is a drastically better musician. Having said that, though, I do think the fact that Springsteen is still considered a GOAT live act earns him bonus points.

An old roommate ruined The Boss for me by blaring Born in the U.S.A. on 11 every morning at 5am for a week.

The only album by Bruce that I have listened all the way through is Born in the USA because it was EVERYWHERE back in the day. Have never intentionally listened to Dylan, although I do like "Tangled Up in Blue". My (Grand)Dad club membership is on shaky ground, huh?

Gee bird I wonder why you listened to Nebraska yesterday I believe Bruce has more perfect 10's than Dylan at this point. So that should be factored in when making decisions. (an OG copy also came into my local record store yesterday that I'm hoping I can still pick up later today cause I've needed that for a while)

Two acts that do nothing for me
Voted Dylan just on overall influence

Bruce wins on just his live shows alone for me. Also I listen to Springsteen much more than Dylan.

Altho some of the charm of this board is that if this poll was Bob Dylan vs The Kaiser Chiefs, The Kaiser Chiefs would win in a blow out.

Kaiser Chiefs are way better live than Dylan these days.

lmao that is too far
"I don't like bob dylan" is a significantly more legitimate opinion than the moronic "bob dylan is bad live" argument.

Dylan is a brilliant songwriter, and I like a lot of his songs, but they don't pull at my emotions like Bruce's songs do. His music sometimes brings me to the verge of tears, and his live shows are like nothing else.

It's a pretty hot take to say that Dylan isn't pretty bad live nowadays. I'm sure he's occasionally "on," but when I saw him I could barely understand a damn word he was saying.

Dylan: Influence, lyrics Springsteen: Performance, composition
I can't come to a strong enough position to vote one over the other, though I'll admit my knowledge of Springsteen's catalog is much more limited.

They have one ok album and when I saw them at Shaky Knees it was horrible. Let's start this new poll.
