I am reading Stephen King's "On Writing" book. It is the only Stephen King I've read. I can't decide whether I feel compelled to read others of his.

It's the only Stephen King book I've read as well, but I took a lot away from it. I read it nearly a decade ago... whew. Also, currently reading this:

Howl's is an interesting cover art choice for that text.

Not sure if there's a rhyme or reason behind it but it's certainly striking.

True story: I named my daughter after the main female character in Howl's
In other news: I recently finished the Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown. I'm normally not much of a sci-fi fan, but those books kept me quite entertained. I blasted through them.

i've only read the first one (Red Rising) so far but i quite liked it.
still havent finished American Gods due to distractions and only having time to read on the blue line, but i'm close to finished and thoroughly enjoying it.
separately i sent off another 3 or 4 copies of manuscripts last night. i've probably sent 20 so far but they all say 6-12 months for responses so it's like...idk.

also we could dedicate a whole thread to King but if only in the interest of timeliness, i can't recommend everyone at least try the first Dark Tower enough. regardless of your initial interest in seeing the movie.
quick, easy read and thoroughly wonderful.

I liked each book in the RR series better than the last. Definitely keep with it if you enjoyed the first one.
Good luck with your manuscripts!

I haven't read a new King novel in a long, long time (I think Desperation may have been the last one I read) but I've still read each of his short story collections that's come out.

But if you want the true King experience, just jump right in at the deep end and read The Stand.

I am reading Stephen King's "On Writing" book. It is the only Stephen King I've read. I can't decide whether I feel compelled to read others of his. Needful Things (1991) is the last book I read from Stephen King, and close to being my favorite one from him. Though I was a precocious reader (I was 9 when I first read one of his books, and then embarked on a reading blitz - literally reading all his books in the following three years), I still feel old writing this...

Needful Things (1991) is the last book I read from Stephen King, and close to being my favorite one from him. I rewatched the movie of that recently and had a weird moment where I realized that the villain is played by Max von Sydow and not, as I had misremembered somehow, by Rutger Hauer.

My school approved my request to teach No Country for Old Men next year. I am super excited to be teaching some McCarthy for the first time.

I've started reading Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan series because it seems come up in conversation a lot and I'm tired of saying "oh I want to read that." I've read one of her non-Neapolitan series books before and it was very good.

don't like that one either. I did enjoy The Importance of Being Earnest and was hoping Ideal Husband would be more like that. It sort of was but not as fun.

Started reading Just Kids last night. Already about 70 pages in. It's one of the books I purchased from Shakespeare & Co in Paris last year with the idea that anything we left the store with would be something we'd hold onto going forward, as a memory of that trip. I'm happy with my purchase so far.

made myself sit down and finish American Gods. stylistically fantastic. the ending(s) was kinda predictable once you reached a certain point but still good.
clearly the show has 0 interest in doing anything related to the book but whatever.

I enjoyed American Gods - kind of petered out a bit towards the end, but it was a surprisingly quick read. Loved the inclusion of bottle chapters (is that what you'd call them?) throughout.
