This one came out the next day so I just got my copy. $25 after tax seems like a lot for what it is (128 pages) but whatevs, happy to support this.

That's actually really cool. Might check those out.

It's slightly annoying that they're twice the price that the standard 33 1/3 books go for, though. Guess they know they can nickel and dime a domestic niche.

I feel like some of you Chicago guys would really enjoy this. It's very much about the Wax Trax scene, talks a lot about Chicago venues like Metro/Smartbar, and is extremely funny. The audiobook, read by the author (I had no idea he was Scottish!) is even better.

Started Ready Player One the other day. It's a cool concept, but I can't get over how poorly written it is. I guess because it's being written from the perspective of a teenager?

Yeah, I was not impressed. It is okay but, like you said, the writing is pedestrian at best and I also had some issues with the plot resolution. I think it took off because of the nostalgia it evokes (rather well I must admit) among a certain age group.

This is so interesting and such slow reading. How did this turn out for you?

working on finishing up Devil's Bargain and it's a pretty good insight into how Bannon orchestrated the vast online presence that conservative media had working for them for the past few years.
it's also not a great book to read on the train since the cover is just a giant picture of Donny and Steve, so all the chicagoans immediately start getting pitchforks in their eyes.
separately, only have a few chapters left on my next project to finish up and i have the outlines completed. hopefully will have it ready to share in a few weeks.

Just make a little paper flap that hangs over the front: "THESE ARE THE VILLAINS OF THIS BOOK"

I'm reading Heart of Darkness for a book club. I read it in high school and thought it was cool but now I'm finding it very boring so far. It's very short so I expected to power through it but I keep getting distracted.

Only Stephenson book I was able to finish was Snow Crash. Tried reading Quicksilver and Cryptonomicon and I could not for the life of me lock in. Put both down after 80 pages or so. Snow Crash is fanfuckingtastic, but it's definitely way more "juvie" than his more recent mega novels. Also, I just finished Ready Player One this morning. Fun book. Should be a fun movie. Shares some similarities with Snow Crash.

This is so interesting and such slow reading. How did this turn out for you? I finally finished it this weekend. I'm glad I read it, but in hindsight, it gets more inconsistent in quality as it nears the end. Also, read a history of the longest baseball game.

I'm 40 pages in to The Satanic Verses. I've tried reading this twice in the past and have quit out of frustration/confusion, but this time I think I understand it more. It's still early, but I think I'm going to finish it.

I picked this up last week: I've been careful not to read too much about it, but the brief reviews I've seen have me excited to read it.

Also, read a history of the longest baseball game. The biggest criticism of Stephenson is that he can't write a decent ending. It drives me crazy because he comes up with really good stories, great characters and then it just all falls apart in the last 100 pages. I am currently reading his latest, The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. (cowritten with Nicole Galland) which is about time travel. As usual, the premise is really good and it off to a solid start. We'll see...

I saw some excerpts of that posted online once and it was some of the worst written published material I've ever read
I'm reading Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison for a book club. Also going to start the second book in Ferrante's Neapolitan novels

I read Invisible Man in high school and got a lot out of it. I imagine it's probably worth revisiting as an adult.

The movie looks different enough from the book that I'll probably check it out, but I can't say I'm excited for it. Good chance it will just end up being a Tron ripoff.
Again, it's a cool concept, but unfortunately it was handled by a terrible author.

I finished Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits by David Wong. It was pretty fast-paced and funny, and I really liked how it all wrapped up. Actually, I listened to this in audiobook form. I got Audible credits as a gift and picked this book up as part of a sale along with the Mists of Avalon. I used to listen to audiobooks all the time back when I had a tape deck in my car. I forgot how much I like them.
As for real books made out of paper: I have about 150 pages left in Clash of Kings. Things are getting crazy.
