Finally got around to Lady Bird. Phenomenal acting and direction, and I appreciated so much that the kids actually sounded like kids. I'm still not sure how I felt about how quickly the editing moved, it definitely felt a bit thin/pulled in too many direction, or about where the film wants you to land on the abusive nature of their relationship.

the ann arbor film festival is one of the leading festivals of avant garde and experimental film in the US. given that it can't happen in person, they're live streaming a lot of their program for free over the next week starting tomorrow. www.aafilmfest.org/58aaff-live-streamsure to be some cool stuff to just pop in and watch.

i cant keep a list of all the stuff ive been watching but highlights are definitely shouting (to myself -- at my desk) every single line to Doctor Strangelove, using the commentary track on Paris Texas to ease my anxiety and fall asleep during the week, Knives Out/Clue double feature Friday, and then introducing Eric to Videodrome last night.
related, Videodrome still fucking rules so hard.

We rented Zombieland 2 last night. Probably didn't need to get made but it was an enjoyable way to spend 90 minutes. I guess I'm slightly looking forward to a third movie to close out a trilogy.

we watched Bombshell and it was just okay. I didn't really find Theron's performance to be all that remarkable. Less of a portrayal and more of an imitation. They really put a positive light on Kelly though, which was surprising. Margot Robbie continues to impress tho.

1. Rabid 2. Shivers 3. Fast Company - This was great. Had a weird static Cronenberg energy but worked entirely on its own as just a chill 70s b movie about drag racing with a hilarious knock off Springsteen/Kenny Rogers soundtrack and good performances and extremely cool cinematography of the shitty 70s pacific north west/canadian Drag race world. There were definitely some weird Cronenberg touches throughout which kept things feeling different but this genre of movie is just straight up a good time especially after all the horror movies ![](https://cinemaaxis.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/fast-company.jpg?w=770&h=387) 4. Stereo 5. Crimes of the Future

1. The Brood -This is just about as good as movies get. Extremely scary, personal in a harsh, ugly and honest way and such a great bad Oliver Reed performance. Gonna return to this one a lot I'd imagine assuming I don't die in the next 3-6 months. ![](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BZDczMjYzMzgtMTY3OS00YTFmLTk5MjMtMjZhODMwYjdhODBkXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNDE5MTU2MDE@._V1_.jpg) 2. Dr. Strangelove and Rashomon were both great! Four movies today! Would rank them for whatever reason but I feel like I need more time to digest the last two specifically. You watchers four good ones today but IMO these are the best two. Dr. Strangelove was good but it really could have used some samurai.

Matthew Broderick is a terrible actor, but I'll watch that movie just for the pilot monkeys.

The offensively bad 2012 teen comedy. Good to know there is a second Project X for me to watch though

also we watched Death Proof and Planet Terror last night and holy shit do both those movies rule.
it's probably been a decade since i've seen either but boy do they both deserve a reassessment in 2020.

I'm grateful I saw the Grindhouse double-feature when it was in theaters. That needs to come back - those trailers ruled!

PERFECT movie for a rainy morning. Will not hesitate to pick this up during the next CC sale. I also have Throne of Blood (and Ikiru, and Red Beard, and I think Sanjuro?) so I'm going to try to watch some of those in the coming days. 1. Short Cuts 2. Rashomon3. The Game 4. The Hunt 5. Tell your mom the board is doing a Cronenberg marathon if she wants to see more of that Viggo fellow.

Eastern Promises would be even more of a GOAT if Viggo had eaten a whole pizza folded in half like a taco.
