A true Mom text this morning: Dad and I watched a movie on free Showtime last night, The Green Book. Highly recommended!fun to reminisce about times when we could take in a musical performance, go to the spa, or have a dinner party with friends

![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2c/Friday_the_13th_%281980%29_theatrical_poster.jpg) Rainy morning movies continue with this classic. I have seen it a conservative 20 or so times, and maybe only 3 of those times have been the extended cut. The tell is the axe kill, which has an additional shot that caught me off guard this time. One thing I'm glad these movies somewhat got away from was the body discovery scenes. Nightmare on Elm Street series did it way better with the continuous deaths adding to the drama. 1. Short Cuts 2. Rashomon 3. The Game 4. The Hunt 5. Detour 6. Friday the 13th (1980)
7. The Seventh Seal 8. Dan in Real Life 9. Coherence 10. Under the Cherry Moon

I haven't watched any movies in a few weeks due to tv being the comfort viewing. Started last night with
1. Dead Ringers - hell yeah baby cronenberg is the cinema legend of t&a. I liked the first half a whole bunch but the second half kinda sucked.

This takes the cake for most fan servicey movie I’ve ever seen, and it just totally sucks.
Tried to watch another Kurosawa but it looks like the files I have don’t have subtitles so I’m making an interesting pivot and watching Junior (1994) for a more light-hearted afternoon with Arnold.

Since we're all spending so much time at home lately, I'm going to suggest you people watch one of my favorites from last year, Luce, which is on Hulu: ![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4a/Luce_film_poster.jpg) Kelvin Harrison, Jr. is fantastic in it. No apologies in advance for how uncomfortable you will probably feel.

the ann arbor film festival is one of the leading festivals of avant garde and experimental film in the US. given that it can't happen in person, they're live streaming a lot of their program for free over the next week starting tomorrow. www.aafilmfest.org/58aaff-live-streamsure to be some cool stuff to just pop in and watch. this movie streaming in an hour at 7pm est sounds cool: FUTURE LANGUAGE: The Dimensions of VON LMO7pm FUTURE LANGUAGE: The Dimensions of VON LMO is a distorted portrait of an artist that explores storytelling, ego, delusion, conviction and memory. VON LMO is a musician/artist and self-proclaimed alien hybrid who was a part of the late ’70s New York No Wave music scene. Between trips to his home planet of Strazar and multi-dimensional travel, VON has also spent some very real time in prison and on the streets of Earth. Challenged with translating his Future Language for audiences across the galaxy, director Lori Felker, filmmaker, and VON LMO fan, gets sucked into VON’s orbit and finds herself lost in his story.

1. The Brood 2. Rabid 3. Shivers 4. Scanners -I hadn't seen this in forever and it doesn't really make any sense but obviously the cool shit is incredibly cool and even lower tier Cronenberg slaps but there's not a whole lot to grasp on to here. ![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/oe190cPYF3g/hqdefault.jpg) 5. 1. Videdrome - Just such an epic movie front to back that showcases all of the good Cronenberg things and is still pretty frightening. This James Woods guy seems great I wonder what he's up to probably being just a cool and normal guy. ![](https://d2ycltig8jwwee.cloudfront.net/features/559/fullwidth.d86f8db4.png) 2. The Brood 3. 1. Videdrome 2. The Brood 3. Rabid 4. Shivers 5. The Dead Zone- Basically two episodes of a TV show but a very good 2 episodes of a TV show. Maybe the first Cronenberg to have legitimately effective dramatic elements and all around good performances. Enjoy Martin Sheen as Joe Biden pre-dementia other than him having any volunteer staff. But also not really a cohesive movie and not really scary so its hard to rate it with the classics. ![](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcRupSubN3fAWpj70zCCxmMuQl2n0aWPSbIzSviucHfPpTTGffGY) 6. ![](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51iQ803pChL._AC_.jpg) this one didn't do much for me. i rewatched the first 20 minutes a couple times because i thought i'd missed something. nope, that's just how it is. and then it dragged way too often. i'm sort of split on le carre movie adaptations anyway.

I watched From Here to Eternity last night. Pretty good and much like Bridge on the River Kwai I thought it was more complicated than one would expect from a film with its reputation (classic Hollywood type WW2 movie).
of the Burt Lancaster films on Criterion I've watched the past few weeks I'd put it behind both Sweet Smell of Success (which is probably my #1 Rona watch this far) and the Swimmer which was pre quarantine but also phenomenal.
