Prey was super. I wish it had a theatrical release, it definitely has some cinematography.

I don't go to a lot of movies but has anybody else noticed that their service quality has seriously declined? Went to see Thor tonight and they started about 5 minutes late and then played the trailer for Beast twice. The starting late seems pretty common these days. A few months back the theater I went to literally forgot to start the movie. 30 minutes later and several trips to the snack counter to complain they finally got around to starting it. Am I just having bad luck or going to shitty theaters?

I have not had that happen to me.

I haven't seen that happen either, but my wife and I are sick of the Nicole Kidman's "We come here for magic" that AMC runs before every movie before the last year.

I think a lot of people really like that Nicole Kidman thing. I read an article somewhere using it as evidence that she should host the Academy Awards.

I don't have a comvenient AMC near me so I actually have not seen this but in general the non-movie trailer pre-stuff before movies has gotten ridiculous I feel like

Took a big break between them but continued the Mission Impossible rewatch with Mission Impossible 3
This one I feel like was close to being a much better movie. The overall plot is fine, Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays one of the best action movie villains I've ever seen (he was so cold it was fantastic), there's some really fun set pieces, and this seems like it set the template for the future films which I'm happy with because I still contend that MI2 was a mess.
BUT honestly I think JJ Abrams did a straight up bad job directing this movie. There's so much shaky cam in a lot of the action scenes that really bothered me and was annoying, and it gave a more ridiculous and less realistic feel to all of it too, which this movie didn't need because it was huge budget and the effects and stuff aren't bad at all! Like they did some cool stuff in that regard and the direction messes with it a lot.
And for how good he is, Phillip Seymour Hoffman feels criminally underused. I didn't necessarily need a back story but I wish he had more screen time. I loved him every time he was on screen.
So far 1>3>>2

I understand it’s kind of a meme or whatever now but the AMC pre roll stuff rocks. Heartbreak indeed feels good in a place like this

The AMC stuff is much better than the Regal stuff. The theater I usually go to is Regal so when I say pre-movie stuff has gotten ridiculous I'm mostly talking them. And Cinemark.

Are we talking about the Maria Menounos stuff or the previews? I feel that any movie should have no more than 3 previews.

Regal has started playing ads for non-movie things as part of the trailers, and multiple of them on top of a ton of trailers. And their pre movie thing (their equivalent of the nicole kidman thing) is not good either

Watching the abysmal Texas Chainsaw Massacre from the 90s, the one with Matthew McConaughey. I've been curious about it since I was a kid and always assumed it was difficult to find bc of how gruesome it was.
Nope, it's bc it's literally garbage. It's a miracle Renee Zellweger has a career. Everyone sucks in this except McConaughey, who is just doing his best Nic Cage impression. And the dialogue... Omfg...it's so cringey. Spoiler, McConaughey's Vilmer snaps some guys neck which causes one of the helpless teens to run off while being chased by Vilmer in his truck. He pulls up next to the soon to be victim and asks him if he's had enough, to which he responds "hey mister, you're really scaring me, can you stop?"....
I thought the most recent Netflix iteration was the worst but that looks like a masterpiece next to this.

Yeah TCM4 is a banger, easily the third best in the series. New one is the worst

The 3D one was legit terrible, but otherwise I haven't hated any of the other ones I've seen. Thankfully didn't watch the Netflix one.

Apparently the 2012 film Butcher Boys is a spiritual sequel to TCM 4. Never seen it tho.
Wasn't able to finish the movie but I will. I dug the remake in 2003, and recently caught 3 on HBO Max and actually enjoyed it. So I guess my ranking would be...
1 Remake 2003 2 3 Leatherface 4 (I guess for now) 3D The beginning 2022

Did Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol last night on this MI rewatch. First time seeing it since it was in theaters.
This one is really good IMO. I have next to no complaints, it's pretty perfectly paced and has some really fun set pieces, the Burj Khalifa scene was fun and the final fight was really cool. This one is interesting because despite jumping locations a few times it doesn't feel very sprawling, everything happens over a short period of time. The villain is really forgettable though, specially after PSH in the last one, and honestly the threat felt a little *too* high stakes, like the villain got to nearly nuking a city really easily.
This one is much better directed than MI:III, Brad Bird did a great job here. And overall it's just really entertaining, even if I feel parts of the story don't hold up as well. Definitely the right direction for this series overall. I'll put it equal with 1, I think it technically has less flaws than the first but isn't quite as good at storytelling at MI1's peak
